Sorrento to Naples for early flight
I have an 08:15am flight out of Naples, but am planning on leaving from Sorrento in the morning. Any savvy travelers out there that can tell me if I'm nuts? Should I stay in Naples the night before my flight?

LP - The Curreri airport bus from Sorrento wouldn't get you there in time - so basically you have 2 options:
- Book an early morning limo/taxi service (- expect to pay € 55-70)
- Go by public transport (- the budget option) via Naples.
The first train (Circumvesuviana) to Naples leaves Sorrento at 05.01 a.m (- arrives Naples 06.08)
The 3S airport bus leaves from outside Naples Station (Piazza Garibaldi) every 20 mins.
There is also the Alibus Airport bus service which starts at 06.30 - with departures every 30 mins.
Either of these would get you to Capodichino by 07.00.
Hope this helps ...

Wow, great information. Thanks.
I'll be traveling with a heavy handed bag wife and two fairly young children 10&8). So I am wondering about convienience. The limo is a bit expensive for me, but not out of the question.
Steve, I think you were saying that one option is to catch the Circumvesuviana to Naples and transfer to a bus (3S). Is that right?
Mpi, thanks for the offer but this trip is next spring.

LP - Correct. You have a choice of 2 buses:
- the ALIBUS direct airport service
http://www.gesac.it/en/index_info.html
OR
- the 3S
http://www.anm.it/upload/Linee/3S.PDF
- both of which pick up at the entrance to Naples FS station (Piazza Garibaldi - by MacDonalds).
Either would get you there in quick time at that time in the morning.
Catch whichever comes first.
Frequency of both is approx. every 20 mins. weekdays
(Every 25-30 mins at weekends)
Hope this helps ...

P.S What's a heavy handed bag wife??

Thanks highledge and Steve. I'll probably wait until I get to Sorrento to decide which route to take, but at least I know I can get to the airport early enough. I won't have to go to Naples the night before.
Steve, the wife reference is the fact that she likes to bring all of her personnal belongings with her on a trip. We can go away for two days and she's set for two weeks!! But, I love her!!

lostpuget, if you come across a taxi driver in Sorrento either standing around the line at Tasso or by the docks strike up a conversation about the cost to Napoli. Sometimes they will strike up a deal, most of them speak good English and it is worth a try.

lostpuget: taking the curreri bus from Sorrento to Naples at the earliest departure (6:45 am) is still not early enough before your flight. I was just there last month and my flight was leaving Naples at 8:20 am.
I had Salvatore (from Curreri) pick me up at my Sorrento hotel at 6:00 am, I was at the Naples airport by 7:00 am - enough time to unload my bags and then stand in line to check on. You can send them an email and you will get a prompt reply ([email protected]). While I am a budget traveler, paying the 70 euros for the drive to the airport was well worth the cost and the potential inconveniences (transfer, plus I have my 4 year old child with me!) AND I was able to stay the night in Sorrento.
