Sorrento and ??
We are planning a trip to the Amalfi coast in June. We stayed in Sorrento for 3 days on our last trip and really enjoyed it. We are going for 10 days this time and instead of spending the entire time in Sorrento, we are considering going to another location for 5 days. We plan to spend every other day touring the surronding area. Does anyone have any suggestions on where else we should stay and sights to visit? Hotel suggestions would be helpful also.
Thanks

I second Positano. It's not as easy to tour the Amalfi coast from there than staying in Amalfi (the town), but you'll still have access to the boats. Positano's the charm/beauty winner along the AC, hands down.
In Positano, we stayed at Room 210 in the Albergo Miramare. If you do a search for Miramare, I'm sure several reports/threads will pop up. Not sure what your budget is. Room 210 was the most expensive room we've ever stayed in, but we thought it was a deal!
Don't miss Villa Cimbrone in Ravello! Great place to stroll for a few hours--its easy to miss because you have to walk a ways from the bus stop, but the grounds are beautiful there.

A third recommendation for Positano. We stayed at the Poseidon, and now consider it one of our very favorite hotels.
I would also agree with the recommendation to tour the gardens at Villa Cimbrone in Ravello-- absolutely gorgeous!!
If you do go to Positano, also visit the mountain village of Montepertuso for dinner either at IL RITROVO ( they may still send a car to pick you up and take you back to your hotel) or DONNA ROSA. I prefer IL RITROVO since it's more casual, but DONNA ROSA is very good, too.
Have a good time!

Hi NJPaul,
Consider a night or two in Capri, a night or two in Paestum (Best Western Paestum is super with a private swimming beach - I am NOT a fan of BW but this facility should be considered)
Things I would not miss in the general area:
Paestum - Greek Ruins
Caserta (a trek to the North from Naples) - 'Versailles of Italy'
Naples - Capodimente and Archeological Museum for artifacts of Pompeii and Herculaneum
Vietra Su Mare - if you like pottery
Capri - renting a boat for a day to tour the coast.
Have a great trip.

Hi NJ,
We recently stayed in Praiano, just east of Positano, at the Le Sirene Hotel and enjoyed it very much.
See my trip report at ttp://www.fodors.com/forums/threadselect.jsp?fid=2&tid=34451044

Amalfi & Ravello are great places to stay with excellent transport connections out of Amalfi.Ravello is a short ride up the hillside & many hours can be spent wandering around Ravello,Scala,Minuta & Pontone, some of the oldest parts of the Amalfi Coast.
