Sono arrivato a Venezia

Ieri...

Buongiorno a tutti!

Let's see if I can keep up a live trip report.

I had a late flight out Tuesday night so I finally arrived at my hotel in Venice on 4 PM Wednesday. Hotel al Ponte Mocenigo - my fourth stay in this hotel. My wifi password still worked - when I fired up the laptop it was good to go!

My friends are already here (some, for two weeks already) so I had dinner at La Zucca with two of them.

This morning, heading out to get a SIM card and then meet my friends at Florians.

LOL - indeed, that's the conclusion to draw from your headline. Italian grammar reveals it all.

Have a great time!

Josser got there first.

Keep that Italian simcard. As long as you make a call every six months and add credit every 12 months, it will remain valid.

We await more details of your trip, flygirl.

i think it's a little cruel to make fun of the OP's italian grammar without giving her the correct version and explaining why the original was incorrect.

I will be there in February making an attempt to improve MY italian so I sympathise.

Keep it coming, flygirl.

I think it's a "he," making the sentence correct.

Leave it to Fodors...

Sono arrivatA. Happy now? Crikey.

Today I visited Palazzo Tre Oci on Giudecca. There is an exhibit on called "Venezia si difende 1915-1918". All B&W photos of the efforts made to protect Venice from air raids during WWI as well as some of the aftermath. I learned that Venice suffered 42 air raids with 1029 bombs dropped. Wow.

Also, on the very top floor was an exhibit of photos by Lewis W. Hine. I would hazard a guess that even if that name did not ring a bell, you'd quickly recognize the photos. For instance, he documented the construction of the Empire State Building so no doubt you've seen the photos of the construction workers perched precariously on it. And he was perched right there with them.

Many of the photos in this exhibit dealt with child labor - coal miners, and the newsboys of the turn of the century. He was a photographer for the NCLC (National Child Labor Committee) and his photos were useful in shining a light on the conditions children worked under - which in turn helped the passage of child labor laws.

I think I may need to go back, as I wasn't feeling very well today - either I am a wee bit dehydrated or I'm coming down with something. I'm several advils in, today, and I've upped my water intake so let's see if that works. I didn't sleep much last night, my first night in, due to whatever it is... The first night of sleep is crucial for being on track, for me.

Tonight, dinner at Alle Testiere with friends. Have a good evening!

Flygirl--I hope you are feeling better and are able to keep up the liveblog. (The latter for selfish reasons--I will be in Venice 1/2).

ann: We shamed her into a correction. Now that's the Fodors I've come to know and love.

Already falling behind! Typing on iPhone at breakfast so pls excuse typos.

Just placeholders for now:

Lunch yesterday was at Al Vecio Marangon (7 of us).

Dinner was at Frary (with a y) which looks at the Frari.

I visited the Fortuny yesterday and saw a magnificent exhibit. Glad to get in as last year this time the museum was closed when I visited.

Today I'm heading over to watch the Santa Claus boat race before taking a water taxi over to Torcello for lunch.

Alle Testiere was excellent and I'm not much of a seafood fan. 300E for the three of us including tip. Worth every penny.

More later...
