Sofia, Bulgaria

Visiting Sofia in May 2012. Does anyone have some special tips on what to see and what to avoid. Interested in museum, art, landmarks, good walks within the city, and Oriental restaurants.

Just saw this. If you click on my name you'll see my current trip report, including Sofia. Definitely do not miss the Boyana chapel and nearby history museum - but get your hotel to arrange the taxi out there rather than taking one off the street.... I seem to remember that the Lonely Planet guidebook has a walking tour. Why do you want an Oriental restaurant? If you don't want Bulgarian food Italian is more likely.

Sofia is very beautiful in May. For a pleasant walk around the city center see the link below. Do not miss Boyana church, take a guided tour to have a better understanding of the paintings. Sofia has nice parks - Borisovata Gradina (Boris Garden) is a nice one, also the South Park. Both are in walking distance form the city center. If you have more time - go to Vitosha mountain (climb Cherni vrah - the highest peak, or go to Zlatnite Mostove (The Golden Bridges)).

I visited in late June of 2011. You should try my new favorite restaurants Divaka and Miss Kapriz (pizza)
