So how far in advance should I book an apartment in Paris?
Husband and I are planning a 10th anniversary trip to Paris. We'd like to stay in an apartment.
We're planning the trip for Oct. 2008. I know I probably have lots of time, and I'll be searching all of the Paris apartment threads.
I've read that some apartments book over a year in advance. Anyone have a general rule of thumb or some guidance as to generally how far in advance we should reserve a place?
Thank you for your help and suggestions.

As soon as they are available for booking and you know your dates - there is no downside to booking early. I generally book apartments 6 months out.

I try to get something reserved about six months ahead for summer months. I am picky, though -- not so much as to luxuries, which I'm not, but location and price and what the place looks like and kind of bed. I won't accept a place with only twin beds, for example, and no decent lights or sitting area. I won't pay huge amounts for one, either.
IOt might not be necessary for months like Feb, but October is probably going to be about as popular as summer months. I don't think the business/hotel peak season affects vacation rental apts. that much, but I'm not sure (October is more difficult to get a good hotel room than July).
A lot of the places I was interested in were already booked about six months ahead, that's all I can say. I'm sure some can be booked for over a year, but that seems a little bit much from my point of view. Since you seem to know exactly when you want to be there and are sure of it, no need to wait. I'd try to nail somethign down by beginning of the year, at least.
