Slovenia + Croatia HELP!
hi all!
my fiance and i are planning a 10 day trip through Slovenia and Croatia.
We love food, the outdoors, and water! historic and religious things are not of much interest.
We also generally dont want our travel to seem to rushed, so we're thinking a maximum of 4 stops in 10 days. We will spend four days in France before, we're attending a wedding there.
Since we are flying back to india, Zagreb is the cheapest way out.
He definitely wants to see Bled, and i want to see Pltivice!
any other suggestions? any advice? we would appreciate it much.
thanks

Let me just say, I like the old city of Zagreb. Others will disagree, but I found it charming. To spend the better part of the day there before your flight, might be nice. Or even to spend your last night there.
If you like cities, Ljubljana is a pleasant surprise and makes sense with Lake Bled. The coastal town of Piran is also charming.
Given your time constraints, maybe you choose Piran over the coast of Croatia (which most would say is compelling, just logistically challenging given the spots you have already picked).

Bled and the lake of Bohunje are great for outdoor. You can take a telecabin or rope cabin whatever that gets you to the top of the mountain and do some fantastic hiking.
Don't forget the Postovna caves/grottoes.
Zagreb is on my todo list.
Enjoy.

I agree with JulieEC -- I think Zagreb quite under-rated. I spent 2.5 days there, enjoyed every minute, and wished I had more time. But others disagree....
Charming Ljubljiana and Lake Bled easily take 3 or 4 nights, a bit (at least a half-day) more if you decide to include either the spectacular UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Škocjan Caves or the nearby Postojna Cave.
The Plitvice Lakes National Park is, IMO, the single most un-missable of Croatia's many splendors. Not only are the lakes connected by travertine waterfall formations, each lake has unique microbiota, and as a result, the lakes are different colors. The best way to see that is to make a single, long loop through the park -- something on the order of 6 hours or more (including time for the boat that connects the lower and upper lakes), and by all means, start at the lowest part of the park so you are facing the falls as you proceed. So that requires at least one night, maybe two depending on your timing.
So, depending on your interest, you have just a few nights "left." For those, I think you would do very well to invest in a few good guidebooks, or consult some at a local library, to see what captures YOUR interests.
Some ideas: You could head a bit east of Zagreb to pick up Varazdin and Cacovek. Or head east to the Kvaner Gulf area, to walk the Lungomare between charming Lovran and Volosko. (I don't think you have time for Istria, but your call!) Or Split and Trogir -- again, I don't think you have time, but it depends on what you want to see / do.
Hope that helps!

Hi
The best if to fly in Zagreb from France. Then rent a car a go to Plitvice NP. From there in Istria (Rovinj, Pula, small inner village). Go to Slovenia Skocjan, Postojna cave and Predjama castel. Finish day in Goriska brda (food, wine).
From there go north to Kobarid (river Soca, food) and Bovec (river sport, hikking). Then through pass Vrsic to lake Bled and Bohinj. One the way to Zagreb stop in Ljubljana for a day.
