Slovenia: Canadian Tourists- Where are you?
After a week in beautiful Slovenia, we didn't meet another Canadian. The size of Massachusetts with a population of only 2 million, we fell in love with the diversity this gem of a country has to offer. It's location, just south of Austria & east of Italy, is reason for the finest cuisine, influenced by its neighbours. The magnificent Julian Alps, charming Lake Bled, spotlessly clean & absolutely beautiful Ljubljana with the weeping willows lining the river running through it, & wonderful little Piran by the sea, are yelling for my fellow Canadians to discover Slovenia while it's still affordable. The Euro will be the official currency in January/07.I highly recommend that this be your destination of choice.

We're not Canadian but could not agree more about the beauty and charm of Slovenia. Loved the smallness of the Lake Bled area and the other small villages. It is a well kept secret but they welcome tourism.

It was until the mid seventies when mass tourism arrived. Prices were MUCH lower then but many places looked pretty run down. Today things must have improved considerably, I suppose.

Oooh ooh! Here's a Canadian! I haven't been to Slovenia yet but am going in May 2007 (as part of a combined trip to Croatia, Slovenia and Paris). I do know a few other Canadians who've been there, but I am not surprised that Slovenia is not on the North American radar that much yet (although it is certainly on the Fodor's radar, but I think we're a unique bunch here)...I'm so glad you enjoyed your time in Slovenia - it makes me all the more excited to go there in May!
