Slieve League

We are on our 5th day in Ireland. Right now we are in Donnegal. I want to go to Slieve League, but am scared of the drive up. I read someplace that you can see the cliffs from the water by going out on a rental boat. Has anybody here done that? And I am just being a sissy about not wanting a scary drive up the mountain? My son is driving very well so far - a little too fast a times for my taste, but he is a young man! The roads are narrower that I expected as everybody warned me about. We are having a great time in spite of all of the rain!! It can stop anytime now!! We are here in Donnegal the next two days and then head to the Galway area for two more days before crossing back toward Dublin for a flight out on Saturday. It's beautiful and the B&B's we have stayed at have been great. Will post a trip report when I get back. Thanks!!

Actually I have a question Did you make the drive to Slieve League? Is it a scary drive? I was planning on going there but now I'm not sure. If I only have a day and a half in Donegal, what should I see? I'm also looking for a reasonable b&b or hotel. Sorry so many questions.

GO!! We have been twice, most recently in April. It isn't that bad. If you are too nervous, you can park at the gate and walk up. (If the gate is closed, just unlatch it, have your son drive through, and close it.)

Some people we met at our B&B we're underwhelmed by the scenery, but I think it is pretty spectacular.

Where are you staying? Hope the rain stops soon!

We drove up and it was scary but here I am writing about it. There was a parking lot midway and if you're nervous, you can park there and walk. Gorgeous views from up there, well worth it. We hiked for a bit until the wind got to be too much.

I know nothing about the boat trip but it's hard to imagine it compares to being up there.

I hope you went for it! It isn't as bad as some of the sheep tracks I've driven, with high hedges on either side hiding rock walls, and a tractor coming the other way

We saw Slieve League from the sea. We had a wonderful sunny day and the views were magnificant! Our son even jumped in the ocean by the cliffs. A wonderful trip. Our b&bs have all been wonderful. The one we stayed in near donnegal was off the beaten track, quiet and peaceful. in fact we just arrivedat Marless house in Galway and it its the first one in a town. I checked out the Trip Advisor Web site for reviews and it didn't let me down.
