Skiing Swiss Alps in May?

First of all, are 2nd and 3rd weeks of May a decent time to ski in the Swiss Alps? If so, are there any recommendations? I will be spending 2 weeks in Milan and would like to travel to Switzerland for a weekend trip or even 3 day trip. Any information will be great.

You could probably go to St. Moritz and ski the Corvatch glacier. Check to web.

I believe there's year-round skiing too from Zermatt.

In general May is NOT a good time to ski in Switzerland, the season is really over by the end of March. All that is left is some glacier skiing, and that would be iffy as well. May can be very foggy in the mountains, as spring is approaching and temps are rising, so even the good views are often obscured. I would not travel for the skiing and not even for mountain views in May, although by the second and third weeks you are getting a bit warmer so a bit better, but still a good chance of cool, foggy wet weather.

Glacier skiing is sometimes available in Zermatt, sometimes in Saas Fee. I was not aware of St Mortiz, but that is possible.

The best option is Passo Stelvio in Italy (north of Bormio, Lombardy). They open in May.

No skiing in Saas Fee, St. Moritz in May. Not sure in Zermatt, but I have doubts. Engelberg/Titlis has two lifts open til June, but it is not worth the effort.

I skied quite often end of April/beginning of May. The weather is subject of change, but we had a mix of sun, rain and snowfall. You should not expect powder. The snow is wet and heavy.

I know, that Zermatt is offering an extended ski season.

An alternative are the high mountain resorts in France.

I looked for Val Thorens (www.valthorens.com)

The ski area is open from November 24th 2005 (snow permitting) until May 8th 2006.

Wow, tom you must be quite the ski nut. I I lived in Zurich for four years and would never bother to ski that late, precisely becuase the snow was wet and heavy and it tends to be so foggy and crappy. I never saw the point in spending time and money for very mediocre skiing

I think most of us were trying to steer rav_n away from making a special trip up from Milan and spending what could be quite a bit of money and time for some very bad skiing.
