Kalimera all. So brief background, this will be my sixth time to the Greek islands in the past four years, clearly I'm addicted. I have been to Crete, Rhodes, Mykonos and santorini multiple times and am finally ready to branch out and see more islands. So I have picked Skiathos based on their reputation for beautiful beaches and good nightlife ( I'm 25). So now for my questions for those who have already ventured to skiathos. Any recommendations for hotels? Should I stay in town? Is this an island I can stay at for eight nights without getting bored? My holidays are strictly for sleeping in, eating delicious food, vegging on the beach all day, wining and dining, and fun late nights out. And repeat the next day. If you think this island wont occupy me for eight nights, should I also try nearby skopelos for a few nights? Aka where mamma Mia was filmed! If you have any recommendations for another island that you feel I would be better suited for, I'm open to any and all suggestions. Efkaristo!!

Skiathos is a small island, the only town of the island is the main town Skiathos, which is very beautiful...

The beaches are amazing and can be reached with the bus, i enjoyed Banana Beach that has a great beach bar, it required some waling though which was worth it !!!!
There are many beaches, even though the island is small, so that you can swim on a different one every day.
One of my favourites one is Koukounaries ( with many families and screaming children though....)
You can easily get to Skopels and Allonisos or to Pilion on the mainland if you get bored... only keep in mind that nightlife is less interesting on the other two islands.
I always stayed at the Skiathos Princess hotel, but have a look at www.booking.com and you will find a big variety of accommodation for every budget.
Skiathos has many private rooms and studios, so keeping it on a low budget shouldn't be difficult.
THere are many nice bars in Skoathos town
When I was there I stayed at Troulos, on the road between Skiathos Town and Koukounaries. While Troulos was nice enough, I found myself going to Skiathos Town most evenings, and Koukounaries or Banana Beach most days. Trouble was, by the time the bus got to Troulos it was often full, especially on the way to Skiathos Town in the evenings.

What you need to decide is whether you would rather be near the best nightlife or the best beaches. And of course it is from Skiathos Town where the ferries leave for Skopelos and Alonissos. If I were to go again I think I would stay in Skiathos Town. As I recall, the bus from there to Koukounaries took only about 30 minutes. From the last bus stop walk over a small hill and you are on Banana Beach.
Skiathos is a small island, i always had a car so i never took a bus, but given the size and the geography of the island you could rent a scooter....
( which i'd never do on a Cycladic island)....
The only place with nightlife on the island is Skiathis town anyway.. ( there are no other villages), so i'd follow Heimdall's advice to stay there ( even though there is no big variety in hotels.....)
I think my tentative plan is to stay in skiathos town for 8 nights, rent scooter. I usually rent atv in Mykonos and santorini. So whatever they give me I'll take. I'll book for 1 night in skopelos and go over there midway through the week for a little trip to the island while leaving my stuff at the hotel room in skiathos. I am excited to visit a smaller, more low key island. Will be a good holiday
While Skopelos is a lot quieter than Skiathos, somehow I LOVED IT! I stayed one night in Skopelos, and rented a car to drive around. There's a lot of beautiful bays and beaches to relax in, and other parts of town that's also interesting to visit on the other side of the island such as Glossa.
Wished I managed to get to Alonissos too but didn't have time. *bangs head on wall*
There's also the Agios Ioannis church perched on top of a huge rock, the one they used to film Mamma Mia, hunting for it was quite an adventure for us, and the view is AMAZING(!!!) from the top of the rock!
There isn't much to see but beautiful beaches, bays and just more beautiful views, but I enjoyed it very much. Stayed at the Skopelos Village hotel where the cast of Mamma Mia stayed. It's located right across the waterfront of the Skopelos Town, not too far from the port.
But I loved Skiathos too
