Sitges or Castelldefels?? Near Barcelona

We have two days and three nights at the end of a two week vacation to spend on the coast. We would like to stay near Barcelona and yet still be on the beach. These two cities look to be the most convient. Has anyone ever stayed in this area and at which hotel. I would like to know which would be best. There will be four of us, my husband, my daughter, my niece and myself. All of us are adults, but might still be curious about the amusement park that is located nearby as well as museums in Barcelona. Thanks for the help!

Hi, Kathy,
We stayed in Sitges for a week last Oct. - Nov. and enjoyed it enormously. Very pleasant small resort feel, good swimming and beach, easy 20-min. train ride to central Barcelona, plenty of good restaurants and shops. We stayed at Hotel La Santa Maria - comfortable enough, friendly family operation. We would recommend Sitges highly.

Hi Kathy! I stayed in Casteldelfels with my husband, 2 kids, niece and sister-in-law just last July. We had a car, but driving in Barcelona was slow. We stayed at the camping La Ballena Alegre (the happy whale) in a bungalow, fully furnished. They had all sorts of activities (open-air movies, bus trip to Port Aventura, disco, kids' room) and of course the beach right there. We loved it there.

Port Aventura is a good 1-1/2 hours from Barcelona by car. Take the highway, even though it costs in tolls. The local roads wind along the coastal cliffs and are crowded. Port Aventura is best for teenagers, of course. My littlest was too short for some rides. I actually only went on 5 rides, but the shows were exciting. We saw the Polynesia show last. At night, the fire dancers were so cool.

I'd do it all again if I could. Enjoy your trip and let me know if you need any more info.

Best regards, Angela

I'm from Barcelona. I liveed for one year in Sitges. Sitges is much nicer than Castell de fels. Although, Sitges is known as the main turistic town for gays and homosexuals. The true is that it's crowed of them. Also, there is a lot of party=noise. Both in summer are crowded. If you don't care about gays and lesbians, defenetelly go to Sitges. It's a very nice town. I wouldn't say the same about CastelldeFels.
Here you have the webs of both towns:
www.sitges.com
www.castelldefels.com/ingl/home.html

I hope this information will help you.
Just to finish w/ it, I would recomend go to the nothern coast of the mediterranean in Catalonia, one/two hours away from Barcelona. This coast it's call Costa Brava, it's much nicer!Places like: Cadaques (Salvador Dalí's town, the artist), Calella Palafrugell(not just Calella), Begur, l'Escala, Tamariu, Llafranc, Sagaró are very nice! Although you need two/three hours to get to Port Aventura. Also, Salou, where Port Aventura is, Sitges, Castelldefels are very, very, very hot! This last zone is called Costa Daurada.Bye, Gio. If you want some more information you can write to my email adress.
