This spring we'll be in Italy for 10 weeks and will leave (rental car) Florence on a Saturday and don't need to be to Agropoli ( near Naples) for 3 or 4 days. Any suggestions on a town or site to see along the way? We will have been in the Spoleto and Terni areas for 2 weeks prior.
Sites (towns) to see on a leisurely drive from Florence to Naples

Yes. I would consider several stops along that route, but perhaps only for a few hours in the first case:
Orvieto
Porto Santo Stefano
Sperlonga
Have fun.
Bob, Have been to the first 2 ...will check out Sperlonga.
I agrre completely on Sperlonga. Close by is Gaeta, another pretty town, worth a visit. Spend some time on PICCOLO ALLEY in Gaeta.
If you enjoy palaces like Versailles, you could easily spend a day at Caserta touring the royal palace and gardens. It's a popular weekend outing for Italians, so best seen during the week.
Assisi
San Gimignano
