SIM card usage in Czech Republic and Italy

I know this question is asked to death but I could not find a specific answer to the question I am asking.

We are spending 5 days in Prague this summer then going to Italy for 9 days. I have a cell phone I purchased in Italy several years ago but I have no valid SIM card anymore. We would like to have a phone upon arrival in Prague especially since we'll be meeting up with my sister and parents in Italy later in the trip and want to stay in contact with them (they will be in Greece and Paris/Ischia/Rome respectively.) If I buy a SIM card for Italy in advance, will it work in Prague? Or vice versa? What would you recommend we do? I can buy a SIM card upon arrival in Prague but I did want to have a number to provide to the apartment rental people in case of any delays, etc.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts on this!
