SIM card for Several Countries
Is there a SIM card that is active in several countries. Sort of like a Euro works across countries. This mainly would be for calls to a Canadian phone number.
We'll be in Germany for three days, Budapest for four, sail to Amsterdam (that takes two weeks) and be there for four and then three in France.
I expect the answer is no but thought I'd ask.
It is likely I will be with my husband most of the time so perhaps a text message wouldn't be too pricey from our Canadian phones if we needed to contact each other if separated.
If we don't get a SIM card, I'm hoping that Skype calls from a free Internet site are reasonable.
Does anyone use FaceTime from Euope to N.A.?

One SIM card will work in all countries.
But purchase one and you pay for roaming fees. These are now capped if you stay within the EU.
Alternatively you could purchase a SIM card in each country, but then your number will change.
Are you using your own phone? If so is it unlocked? If you purchase a new phone in Europe you will need to purchase an unlocked phone to change the SIMs for each country.
To use skype you will need an internet connection. Be it local WIFI or via your provider.

As noted, roaming rates within the eu are now very competitive and a lot will depend on just what you want to use your phone for. If it's basically to receive, you really need only one sim card from an operator within the eu. That way you keep the same number throughout.
OTOH if you are making calls outside the eu, say to North America, then the calls will be expensive. Of course there are ways around that such as texting somebody to call you or making a quick 1 minute call and telling the other person to call you back (yes I know it's tacky) or perhaps, if they're not blocked, makingan intra eu call to some ld provider (the triggering call will be at eu roaming rates but it's cheaper than paying the full amount for a 10 minute call)... and of course data is a whole different world.

If you order 2 SIM cards online from Lebara.fr they will arrive in Canada in about a week. You need to add in "Canada" in the line for 'state' on the online form. You can activate it online.
As noted in the replies above, roaming rates are capped at about 45 euro cents a minute. See the fine print at Lebara for texting costs and fees to Canada.
