sim card

hi all,

i have planned a euro trip. as we all know, nowadays internet connectivity is very important. I will be traveling to multiple places. I was wondering if there's any sim card which works in multiple cities like a local sim. roaming solution is very expensive. please note internet connectivity is my priority.

i will arrive first in munich, germany.

thanks best regards,

Muhammad ALI

Ignoring the spam, you should tell us the places you're going, and how long you'll stay. EU regulations have put restrictions on roaming costs within Europe, and they are supposed to disappear altogether by the end of 2017. The costs for data are still considerably higher than for voice though.

You may be able to get a SIM card in Munich and use it throughout Europe. Whether this is your best option would depend on how long you'll be in Germany, and for how long you'd be using the SIM card outside of Germany, and in which countries. If that's what you decide to do, you would then have to find the German provider with the best intra-Europe data plans.

Most of the "international SIM cards" you can find on the internet have very unfavorable rates for data. Some show a low cost, but for a very small amount of data. You should estimate how much data you'd need and then calculate how much that would cost you with these various plans.

You should try to use wifi as much as possible when traveling, and keep your phone's data services turned off when you're not using them. Also, set your phone so that updates of apps are made only when there is a wifi connection.

Hi bvlenci,

My trip is for 18 days.

7 days in italy, 5 days in Germany and 6 days in france.

My data usage is high. I will need roughly 2gb for my trip.

Please advice.

Thanks.

When you land in Munich, head into the city and look for a shop selling new and used cell phones (more often than not they do speak English). I have found that they offer the best selection and prices for SIMs. They can help you choose what will best suit you. Just remember to not leave until you verify that your data connection is working and that you can make calls.

Maybe at the Edeka but I really doubt it, besides going to one of those independent new/used cell phone shops will give you a greater variety in choices. Were you not headed into the city after arriving?

I doubt that. These shops at Munich airport are plushy and expensive and don't barely offer what you are looking for. Try it around the main station. There are several small shops run by turkish and arab people. Describe your needs and they will try seriously to help you.

Actually, it is not. Not at all.

The Munich Hauptbahnhof will have places in and near that you can get your SIM.

GO-SIM have a Europe SIM card which will work in all the countries you are visiting, and since you order it online, it can be posted to you before you travel. Their international SIM card option will also work in these countries at the same rates, and you have the option to add a 2GB bundle to the SIM which should cover your requirements.

Go-SIM International charges .06 per mg or $60 per gb. Is that average?

I just noticed that 2 gb of data for that Go-SIM card would cost USD 119! In fact, most of these internet-based SIM card offers have reasonable rates for calls and very high rates for data.

For the next two months...T Mobile USA, if you are on their simple choice plan, charges the appropriate rate for 4g data while roaming in Europe. i.e. $0. It's part of the plan. Voice calls are a little expensive, 20¢/minute rounded up to the next highest minute but there are ways around that. Now that is a bargain.

Hi all,

forgot to update you.

I bought a local sim card from the shop near the main train station. He told me that the data will work on 18 countries. bought it for 50 Euros.

Unfortunately, the data didn't work outside Germany. I guess it had more to do with communication problem than anything because phone worked well in other regions, but the main idea of using data during the trip was lost.

Later I checked on Lycamobile website and they had stated clearly that this data package doesn;t work outside germany.

anyways thanks all for your guidance.

Cheers
