Sights within reasonable driving distance of Istanbul

Jump to last reply

We have about 7 days in Turkey. We are flying into Istanbul and are planning to spend the first few days there, but not sure how to spend the rest of our time. We want to avoid flying or excessively long drives, which seems to rule out many places. For example, Cappadocia looks BEAUTIFUL, but it is so far from Istanbul! Are there any big sights a short drive away?

We like history/culture/art/nature. Don't like shopping or beaches. We would rather take a bus or train than rent a car.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
