Siena/Montelpuciano/Montelcino
We will be staying in Siena in May (3 days) and were planning on renting a car for a day trip to Montelpuciano/Montelcino. Any suggestions on restaurants or wineries in between or not too far from these places?
Thanks,
Chris

Chris, In Montalcino try the Trattoria Schiame--and about 4 miles south is the winery and expensive ristorante of Poggio Antico. Further south on the same road is the Castello Banfi--search under that name for details. For a great meal in Montepulciano, try the La Grotta across from the San Biagio church just west of town. Try to see the small spa town of Bagno Vignoni enroute between these towns. There is an Osteria there that is good as well.
Have a great time and buy some brunello and pecorino.

Since you are going to be in the neighborhood, Pienza is a charming town well worth a visit and the site of one of my favorite restaurants in Italy: Latte di Luna, all the way to the end of the main street into town. The other suggestions already provided are excellent choices which I've also enjoyed.

HI!! I would suggest that you rent a guide if you are staying in Siena for three days, I went out with Dario for a couple of day trips, he will take you to see the most charming off the beaten path places and his knowledge and passion of the area are incredible. He has access to so many places that are not open to tourists and is fluent in English It is not easy getting hold of him as he is very well known, (he has also written a book about the area) but you can try at [email protected]
