Sidetrip to the Cezh Republic
We will be in Amsterdam for a businesss meeting and would like to try to finally see the Cezch Republic. We were thinking of keeping the flights in and out of the U.S. in the Netherlands. Are we doing ourselves a disservice by not staying in the Netherlands for a vacation or is the C.R. not such a bad idea?We will be there the end of April into the first week of May.Thanks for any suggestions offerred.

Debbie,

Prague and Chesky Krumlov are spectacular. I would highly recommend taking opportunity to see them, but will you be in Amsterdam when the Tulips are in bloom? I would not miss an opportunity to see the Nehterlands at that time of year.

Aileen

Debbie--
If you don't have a whole lot of extra time, the best thing is to fly from Amsterdam into Prague and return. In Prague, which you must see, you can either rent a car to go to places like Cesky Krumlov and Ceske Budejovice, or you can take a train or bus. All of the sightseeing you probably want to do will require (in my opinion) a total of at least 3 days to get a nice feeling for the country and the cities. If you have less time than that, you will probably be a bit rushed. But don't miss Czech Republic, especially Prague, if you do have some time; I've been there and to other cities, and loved it. Enjoy your trip.

I have only been to the Amsterdam airport but I have a couple of comments. First, I have read about something called I think the Floriade which takes place in the Netherlands only once every 10 years. This is the year and I think it is in your time frame. Second, I remember on one flight talking with the passenger in the neighboring seat who was from the Netherlands. i asked him when the best time to visit was. He told me April to May. I have beent to Prague and Czesky Krumlov and really enjoyed both of them, but every trip we take we seem to narrow down the area where we visit. There is so much to see and do in such small areas of Europe that personally to me it seems kind of silly to fly all the way to Prague.
