Sicily in February
Can anyone tell me what it is really normally like in Sicily in February? I don't mind cool (with sweater), but don't want snow/blizzard/freezing as I want to paint and be outside. Hence, I am going as far south in Italy as possible. By the way, should it matter, I am thinking of Trapani (not Mt. Etna, for example, which I know would be snow covered).
Love to hear.

I was there in February (stayed in Ortygia) and the weather was pretty good, but walking around outside I did need a warm jacket a lot of the time, and especially at night.
Inland it was warmer - and often didn't need more than a sweater during the day.
All of the lemon and orange trees were full of fruit so driving was very colorful .

Thanks, Patricia. I hadn't thought of going inland because I thought I had read somewhere that the climate was more temperate, less seasonal, along the coast. Maybe it depends on the coast. Wonder if some are cooler.

I was there in April and it was very stormy and even snowed in Palermo.
I woudn't count on it as a place to be outside painting with only a sweater in February, but you might try contacting people in Trapani who winter there for more of a sample.

Thanks, yall. It sounds definitely iffy, and bobthenavigator's site confirmed it. Funny, I would have thought it would be comparable to the caribbean but apparently not. Snow in Palermo--that had to be an oddity!

Sicily is definitely not the Carribean. And snow is not millennial, although the year I was in Sicily there was snow in many uncommon places along the Italian coast.
The Ligurian coast near France may have the best winter weather because it is protected by the high European mountains. But while sometimes you can luck out with spells of truly balmy weather (as in California), your more likely experience will be something decided cool and even chilly -- to downright freezing.

According to this page of the official site of the Comune di Bordighera
http://www.bordighera.it/TRADINGLESE/01ClimaINGLESE.htm
the average daily temperature in February is 10 C. or 50 F.
(F. = C. ./. 5 x 9 + 32)
10 ./. 5 = 2 x 9 + 18 = 32 = 50 F.
50 F. is not far from the 48 F. in Genoa.
The average temperature in Palermo in February, on the other hand, is 55 F. and quite a bit warmer.
