sicily

I am planning a Sicilian leg to my trip to Italy in late June, early July. I am going with a group of girlfriends, and basically we are going for sun and fun. Can anyone recommend any towns/resorts/hotels? I will be arriving from Venice and will be staying three to four nights in Sicily. Also, I would appreciate any information on day trips -- I heard Capri and Sorrento are easily accessible. Thanks.

Hi Carol, <BR>Sicily will be a terrific addition to your itinerary. The resort town of Taormina is fabulous, it is perched up on the mountains overlooking the gorgeous sea below. Lots of ancient ruins to explore in Taormina and Agrigento, lots of good shopping, food and wine.

<BR>Good morning, Carol <BR>There two other areas on the north shore <BR>of Sicily, both near Palermo, the first <BR>is the beach resort of MONDELLO,about 11 km.which is probably most frequented by the IT's. <BR>and the second is CEFALU which is just <BR>west about 68 km. Nice small town with <BR>cathederal and mountain top castle. <BR>Surf into: <BR>www.virgilio.it/ (IT searchmachine) <BR>www.venere.it/ <BR>www.hotelguide.ch/ (hotels) <BR>www.datastudio.it/cefalu.htm/ <BR>www.sicilian.net/ <BR>www.sicilia.com/aero.html/ <BR>www.ragusaonline.com/ira/ <BR>www.comune.palermo.it/turismo/ <BR>Good surfing, Richard of Hickory Hills, IL.... <BR>

There is no way you can do Capri or Sorrento as a day trip from Sicily. The ferry from Naples to Palermo is an overnight trip. Even flying Palermo or Messina to Naples then taking the hydrofoil on to Capri or Circumvesuviana to Sorrento would take up hours just one way. If there's any quicker way then I haven't heard of it. Can you stop in Rome or Naples? There are plenty of day trips available ex Rome and both are close to Naples.

Girls in Sicily...now theres trouble! I'm a Canadian girl who used to live, and work in Palermo. Despite the traffic, and noise, I'd recommend a few night there if you are looking for a great party town. There's a ton of discoteques, and a ton more bars, and pubs to meet people. Palermo may seem a bit scary at first, and the Sicilian men seem horrendously lechy at first, but if you let loose, and relax, you'll find that they are harmless, and basically want to learn all about foreign places too! I'd recommend "Fuso Orario" It'a a Bar in Palermo, 10 minutes from the train station. You'll find a great night life surrounding the bar at night (weekends) and live music too! Have fun, and e me if you end up visiting Palermo!

Melody are you still in Palermo? I'm a Canadian girl and I just moved to Catania and I'm trying to find my way around. Any tips?

Jaxson - you're asking someone who posted 13 years ago? What the heck did you search for to find this old post?

How is life in Catania?

We found it fairly hectic on our day trip.

Hi Carol, we stayed in Taromina last summer at the Villa Schuler, couldn't have been happier. Ask for the larger room w/2 balconies. Karen will help you plan day trips with a guide and driver if needed. We visited a small town where the GodFather was filmed - Savoca, had the best lunch at a restaurant owned by the flower girl in the movie. Also went to a beach resort for the day - Paradiso - beautiful pool and beach and delicious lunch. You can stroll Corso Umberto at night in Taormina and feel very safe. See Roberto's Pasteria for the best canolli's ever. Have fun.

Adrienne

I have lived in my town for 17 years, I have absolutely no idea why you find it acceptable to be so off hand with a new poster.
