Should we take this fare?

Have been digging for airfares from San Francisco to London, coming back from Rome to San Francisco...Continental search comes up with $638..certainly the lowest so far...those of you with experience in these matters, should I take this, or wait a bit..
Departing 4 October..
Thank you,
Mike

Have you checked the Orbitz website? They usually have pretty good fares and would give you an idea of whether you'e picked the lowest one or not.

Sounds like a pretty good fare for an open jaw and early October. But checking some of the sites would be good.

If you're whistling the tune and getting exactly what you want, that is a decent fare for what you are doing at that time. Are you getting miles on your preferred carrier, too? That is something to net against an airfare of that distance. (For me, I've found that it can make every fourth or fifth trip to Europe "free", plus provide other perks such as domestic upgrades). Fares often need to be considered in the context of your entire travel program -- not just in isolation with one trip. The risk of that fare going a LOT lower would seem small, if that price includes all the taxes. Trying to save the last $100 could end up costing money if it doesn't surface and you may also be able to get a voucher for the difference if it does happen. Pull the trigger and don't look back!

British Airways is having a great sale right now, but I am looking at east coast prices -- $299 roundtrip east coast cities to London, flying midweek, and it includes a $100 voucher to one of their London hotels. Add ons to other cities (e.g. Paris, Amsterdam, Zurich, etc.) are about an extra $100 - $150.

Great fares can disappear in two hours, or even two minutes - - let alone two days! Don't give up - - sometimes they come back.

Best...

Rex
I just did a fare inquiry on www.aesu.com because they have a great set up for open jaw inquiries- I found a fare of $657.50 (not including tax) on US Airways for your iteniary and dates. The next highest fares was $687.50 on Lufthansa- You can check out those airline websites directly as well.

Hi, I am known by my friends and "the person who can get unbelievable air fares. My advice is to check best fares and then you won't believe the fares. Also if you subscribe to all the airlines web specials that is a great way to find low fares. I have found it so much more successful than any of the expedia... travelocity.. orbitz etc... They take so much time...
The only bad thing is that most of the fares are so low that you can't upgrade to first class etc. with miles. But then there is always that possibility.
I wish you luck. Personally I don't think you should take the fare. That is way too high!!!! Check out the above and you will save . Ps. I fly out of SFO and know the west coast fares.
Diane. email me if you have problems...

Diane, it seems you'd be the person to ask this of...do you have any experience with flights.com (I heard of them here)? I found what I need (PIT to FCO with just one stop) for $636 which is $400 - 500 less than on orbitz. expedia, cheaptickets, travelocity, etc. Just seems too good to be true.

Of course, that was yesterday, who knows what's available today?!

Thanks in advance.

I remain astonished at the willingness of people on this site to donate their time and effort to assist the not-so-clever, such as me, in sorting out their problems...thank you all, especially Tricia and Diane, for your generosity...
Mike

Mike - I'm LA-based which is similar to SFO and while $638 isn't rock bottom for RT to London in low season...for an open jaw ticket London/Rome in October which is shoulder season, I think it is a very good fare, especially if you do earn your FF miles. Some on this forum have said that it is hard to price open jaw tickets on websites and have recommended you find a reliable consolidator or 'bucket shop' or good travel agent to research this for you.
