Should I stay in Sorrento, Positano, or Amalfi?
Hey guys,
You were all so helpful on my first post, so I thought I'd come to you again. I decided I am going to do the trip on my own, and stay in hostels. More inexpensive, and I'll get to be on my own time schedule.
Now that I've decided I'm staying in hostels, I haven't decided which actual city I want to stay in, and was wondering which is the best one?
I want to see Positano, Amalfi, and Sorrento - and would love to stay in Positano, but I know they only have one hostel (Brikette). Ideally, I'd like to stay somewhere where I can meet other people and hopefully make a friend or two. I hear Sorrento has some fun nightlife; is there a good hostel in Sorrento anyone can recommend (I've heard Seven is good, but not really walking accessible)? ...Or is staying in Amalfi a better option?
Thanks!
Esther.

Do you know if there is a hostel actually *in* Amalfi (not just somewhere outside) ? If so I'd go for that. Amalfi is more of a 'real' town as well as being a holiday resort and beautiful, so there's more of a mix of people. It is also the best place on the Amalfi Coast for bus and boat connections, if you are wanting to travel round & see other places in the area.
Positano is really only a holiday resort, catering almost exclusively to a fairly wealthy clientele, so I don't think you'd meet so many young people there apart from waiters and bar staff. (I'm assuming you are young since you are looking for fun nightlife ? ) Although there is quite a noisy disco in the centre. I've stayed there for 3 separate weeks and don't remember seeing any young visitors apart from those staying in hotels with their parents.
Sorrento is largely aimed at cheaper British package tours & is a bit like an Italian Blackpool, if that means anything to you : I wouldn't stay there but I suppose a lot of people think it's fun.

It really depends on what you want from the town you stay in, to determine which town is best. You sound fairly young, at least in comparison to me, so I wouldn't stay in either Amalfi or Positano, as there isn't much night life in a clubbing sense or young bar scene.
I would definitely stay in Sorrento--it's a bigger place with a lot more choice and more "young" night life. See this website for a choice of hostels:
