Short Trip to Ljubljana, Slovenia from Venice

We are cruising into Venice and will be there for 48 hours.
Is it possible to travel into Slovenia to Ljubljana and back in that time. What is the best way? Bus? Train? Private car?
We arrive at 1PM in Venice on a Monday and leave at 1PM on the Wednesday.
