short London trip
My husband and I will be in London for the first time Sept. 25-27. We are then flying to Italy. Given the short period of time we have can anyone suggest an itinerary for people who love to walk around neighborhoods, see a few Historical sites and want to find both a decent restaurant that won't blow our budget as well as thoughts about getting theater tickets in advance. Thanks for your help.

Hi again. The hop on hop off bus is a great way to get introduced to London and see a lot. On my first visit I didn't do any hopping, just rode the whole circuit and got a view of lots of things from the outside. This is a good idea if you arrive very early am and your room isn't ready although some would say a walk in fresh air is better. By doing some hop on and off you can accomplish both. Here's the website that shows the different options.

Day of the week can have some affect. Since you arrive on a Sat., the market in Portobello Road in Notting Hill area would be a fun place to start although earlier is better.
For theater tickets in advance, you could try lastminute.com if you want something that's been on for a while. There's a lot of new things opening in Sept before you arrive. Go to londontheater.co.uk/ for info. FYI, there's a new show by Andrew Lloyd Weber with Michael Crawford called West End.
For "a decent restaurant" first decide about the theater and then post back.

If your time is tight, it's also fun to do a walk or hop-on/off tour in the evening/ night. Seeing London by night is a great into to the city and the big sights-- fun for your first evening in town.
There are also a number of walks at night-- pub walks in particular-- that can be a good intro and get you around the city a bit more than a long dinner.

BTW, here's the website for the "half price" tkts booth if you decide not to buy tickets ahead of time.
