Shakespeare's Theater - Titus Andronicus...Has anyone seen this performance?
Before my son travels back to the states from his Rome Study Abroad trip with Univ. of Fla. he was planning on seeing this particular play at Skakespeare's Theater the night before he left. Being that it is over 3 hours long and in the evening hours, I wanted to inquire if anyone has seen a play in the evening at Shakespeare's Theater...or had any input on this particular play. Please advise.

I don't know anything about the performance, but from my English studies, I remember that "Titus Andronicus" is Shakespeare's most violent and gory play. If given the opportunity, I probably would not go to see it, but your son may feel differently about it.

Where is Shakepeare's Theater? In Rome? Or do you mean the Globe in London? If the latter, I'd go. No need to stay for the whole thing. Will he be standing? If so, the theatre is open to the sky, and he might need an umbrella.
To see a Shakespearean play as presented in Shakespearean times is a special experience.

OK - do you mean the Titus Andronicus being presented at the Globe? (I think the RSC Stratford presentation ended last month)?
I don't see how the time of performance makes much difference since it is in London.
Titus Andronicus is definitely not one of my favorites - last time I saw it was at the Barbican and unfortunately in the front row you end up w/ fake blood splattered on your shoes
Anyway - attending a play at the Globe is great. Check out the full schedule at their website - since the shows run in rotating rep - he wouldn't be "stuck" w/ Titus Andronicus unless that's what he wanted . . . . .

I'd LOVE to see Titus Adronicus at the new Globe theater in London.
People today have an idea about Shakespeare that he was very refined, but actually he was quite the sensationalist because he had to work hard to keep the attention of the rowdy audiences that went to the (old) Globe theater.
I saw Pericles at the New Globe Theater, which is a play most people think is silly. But it is filled with shipwrecks and exotic foreign ports and markets and brothels -- and the performers really tossed it right to the audience!
Titus Andronicus ia filled with the most sensational goings-on. Of course your son can leave if he is bored (or it rains) but my guess is that he'll be fascinated.
Afterwards, it's fabulous to walk across the Millenium Bridge with St. Paul's all lit up. If he wants a meal beforehand, there is a Pizza Express next door to the Globe with dropdead views of the Thames.
