My husband and I are traveling to Lagos Portugal via bus from Seville. We would like to go to San Sebastian on our way up to Paris but are wondering if we should go back to Seville by bus to get a train or use trains from Portugal and head north.
Our route thus far looks like this:
May 25 Seville to Lagos
May 28 - 31 (some other spot in southern portugal)
May 31 bus to faro (or other suggested route?) train to San Sebastian
We have found a bus to Seville that arrives there 1 PM but have not been able to find an outward train to San Sebastian . We have a eurail pass (6 days and this will be day 2 of its use)
From San-Sebastian we need to be in Paris for June 4-8. We are unsure of how many Eurail days we will need to get from Paris and then do a couple days on the coast of Normandy. we leave next week for the first part of our trip so really would feel better having this piece sorted.

Okay more searching and found a train that leaves Seville @12:45...so miss it by 15 min. Anyone know of an alternate train that I can't see scheduled ( using RailEurope site)?
Hi, j,
A tip I got from someone on this forum was to use the German rail website, www.bahn.de -- They seem to have all the info on all European trains. What I see there for Sevilla to San Sebastian is that you have departures from Sevilla at 7:15, 8:11 and 9:45 (all p.m.). But none of these are direct; some require two changes, and one requires one. I didn't research this further, but based on my experience, I bet that all require a change in Madrid. And the change will require a change in station from Atocha to Chamartin.
Getting from one train station to another (I think they're about 5 miles apart, but all in central city) can be done on metro or commuter train if you have enough time. Taxis won't be outrageously expensive though.
Thank-you...that was helpful. would prefer that 12:15 so am looking at options from Faro to Seville now to get there by 12:15. I sure am learning alot as I go.
I think there are two Spanish companies that make the trip, Damas and Alsa. There may be more, but those are the ones I can find. Looking at their schedules, the only bus I see that gets there before 1 pm is the Alsa bus that leaves at 1:15 in the morning from Faro.
The Portuguese line, Rede Expressos, seems to also have one arriving at 1 pm, and a second bus that leaves Faro at 3:30 p.m.
thanks again...they may have changed the schedules as I now find a time via renfe that leaves Seville and changes in Madrid. I see that I have more time to make the train trains which was the big issue with the earlier schedule.
whoops no proofing...I meant time to make the train change
whoops and this is tagged Portugal!
i'm a rookie what can i say??? too many places that hinge on getting to the one before or after appropriately!!!
There's a Vueling flight from Seville to Bilbao for only $80 (including taxes). You can then take a bus from Bilbao to San Sebastian which takes less than 2 hours.
