We are flying into Seville on Easter Saturday at 5 pm and need to get to Malaga by 11 am on Sunday.
I'm concerned with the increased traffic and possible delays in transportation in Seville over those two days.

Options:
1. Originally had planned to stay the night in Seville and take the early train to Malaga on Sunday morning.

2. Go directly to the train station and catch the 8 pm train to Malaga

3. Rent a car at the airport. Either stay in Alcala de Guadaira near Seville for the night or drive to Malaga and stay the night there.

Will we have problems with getting to the train station in time for option 2? Is it worth staying in Seville for the one night with the crowds? Is driving to Malaga easy?

we were in Sevilla during Holy Week a few years ago. Crowded but fascinating. Sevilla is worth a few days minimum.

I would imagine you could get to the train station in time to get the train. The airport isn't that far out, and the traffic problems are in the center, not where those two things are (airport or Santa Justa). And there is a flat taxi fare, as I recall, into Seville. I just took that train in October, and I think they say you should get there 30 minutes ahead or something. But you should easily be able to do that UNLESS your plane is delayed for some reason, a long time. You don't even go into the city proper if you are just going from the airport to the train station, as it's in the same direction. I imagine just come down the major highway A4 and then the big road av de Kansas City, that's it.

Maybe there is just traffic due to people coming to the city for that holiday, don't know, but not due to the processions and things they do more in the city center.

So I'd take the train. I would never go into Seville on that night for a few hours to stay overnight. Hotel rates are through the roof during that week, for one thing and you have to reserve far in advance. Just not worth it for a couple hours in the evening. And unless you stay in the historic center/Santa Cruz area, why even bother? And traffic will be bad there.

Why are you flying into Sevilla and not Málaga? You should be able to get a flight since you will be traveling through Madrid. Flying into Sevilla, and not spending a few days, is wasted time.

Thanks for your replies. We are not flying through Madrid. We are flying direct from Marrakech, Morocco to Seville. Unfortunately there is no direct flight to Malaga. In hindsight I should have gone with the flight to Madrid with the overnight there. But I already booked the flight to Seville because it was much shorter and cheaper.

Are there any concerns with the trains not running or being on time over this weekend?

Trains in Spain are normally very punctual, and the major Holy Week celebrations are over with the so called "Madrugá" from Thursday night into early Friday afternoon. Although the resurrection on Sunday is also a big thing, much of the visiting crowds would have left after the Madrugá.

We decided to stay the night at the Ayre Hotel Seville by the train station. We can then catch the 1st train out in the morning on Sunday.
