Seville and surrounding area

We have just returned from a fantastic 6 day break in Madrid and Salamanca. We enjoyed it so much we have the urge to see more of Spain and we would appreciate any help and advice you could give us on visiting Seville and the surrounding region with a rented car. We plan on staying a week in one location as a base and taking days out to other cities or areas. We have the idea of flying into Gibraltar, rather than Malaga, as the flights suit our preferred home airport.
Has anyone done this? All contributions gratefully accepted!!
