Seniors Discounts for train travel in Europe

Jump to last reply

I am delighted to have found information on the Tarjeta Dorada for train traveling in Spain, thanks to a posting of lincasanova.
Consequently I checked in the renfe website, and found out that Detailed information is posted in the renfe.com , website, notably the Tarjeta Dorada can be bought for 5.50 Eu for those over 60, it can be used in all renfe trains,
In the AVE trains , Mondays, to Thursday the discount is 40%, while during week ends the maximum discount is 25% with some restrictions.
In trenes de Media Distancia Convencional the discount is also 40%,every day.
in the Cercania Trains the discount is 40%.
The Tarjeta dorada, I suppose makes a better deal for seniors to travel by train versus
buses in Spain. Unless there is some discount on buses too, which I am not aware of.

How about other European countries? I am traveling soon to France and Italy and would love some advice in this regard. That is which is the best way for Seniors to obtain tickets in those countries, for that matter in all European countries.
