What will he do for housing? Is the university there helping him? Reasonably priced housing for students is often hard to find.
He might find this site useful: http://www.useit.dk
Hoping he will get family housing through the college. They can choose to stay in the dorms too. Believe housing is a big problem in the summer but he will be going in January.
I was looking at Busabout and eurail passes - the former does not go from Denmark and only starts in April. Any ideas on the most economical way to travel around from Copenhagen to other countries besides the Scandinavian ones. If my memory serves me correctly the only way to get to "Europe" is by ferry to Germany.

No one have any advise or suggestions? Thanks
He doesn't need to take the ferry to Germany. I'm sure there are other possibilities, but he could take a train to Aarhus (in Jutland) and then take another train to wherever.

Copenhagen is not as well-served as some places by budget airlines, but there are a few that operate out of CPH. Look at Snowflake and EasyJet. Ryanair goes from Malmo.
There are also bus passes with Eurolines - http://www.eurolines.dk
I know there are other bus services that operate in and from Denmark also.
Thanks will look into all that.
You can take a train from Copenhagen to other parts of Europe. We did it from there to Berlin.
