Congratulations on your wedding plans. And it sounds like you will have a very memorable honeymoon.
Perhaps the best help we can provide is to suggest that you modify your plans to create an itinerary that can be accomplished in 10 days. As it is, you are trying to see too much in that amount of time and will spend the majority of your time in trains and planes and not seeing the wonderful sights of Europe.
Do you have 10 days for touring or does this include travel time to and from India? With 10 days, I would suggest no more than 3 stops. With 8 days, I think 2 stops would work better. If you want to see Switzerland, perhaps add Paris to your itinerary and see Paris and Switzerland. You are right - the weather will be very cold in February.
Do some research and choose the places you most want to see and those of us on the Fodors board will be happy to help you with details.
the weather will be very cold in February.>
maybe at highler elevations in Switzerland but not in Paris or most of France where it rarely goes under freezing or snows though last winter was a huge exception to that!)- but coming from India the term 'cold' could mean temps in 40s or 50s and I'd expect in Paris in February and have seen as such several February sojourns I have made in Paris.
As for ideas on where to go and especially if traveling by train you'll find a lot of ideas at these fantastic IMO sites - www.ricksteves.com and http://www.budgeteuropetravel.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderfiles/rg011210.pdf.
mamcalice makes a sage suggestion of limiting 12 days to two countries - Switzerland I guess is a given and then Italy or France. Italy of course would have much warmer weather dependably than northern France in winter.
Paris will be very cold compared to India - although agree it has a generally mildish winter for a temperate climate. But if you're not used to it 40 degrees with rain and wind can seem arctic.
Agree you need to determine how many days you actually hae on he ground nd then divide by a resonable number of stop. Either way I would stay in 2 places - posibly doing a day trip from each.
Not sure why you really want Switz so much - although I love it. But in Feb it is all about winter sports and you will have cold and snow most everywhere (controlled in the cities, bigger towns and on the main roads) - but nothing like all the pictures of beautiful green meadows and cute towns and cows and Heidi you see in the summer.
if you tell us what you want to DO - any winter sports at all - and if no, what in Switz - and what in other places people can make better recos.
Generally the bigger cities are better in winter since they have so much more to see and do indoors - that the weather matters a lot less.
Also - make sure you have your wardrobe worked out - you don;t want to arrive and find you have to buy a whole new one.
Thanks Guys for your feedback!!!I am spending 10-11 days in Europe. But Please advise,if I am ready to face winter.....
1>Shall I miss any of the activity during Winter???
2> Whether will be so extreme that,I can't step-out from room if I would like to include Swiss.(like stuck in snow fall etc.etc.)
I am planning to start from Paris,Italy & then swiss in order to get used to with whether conditions.
But Please advise me very specifically which are the City must I see & Hope 3* Hotel will be the comfortable.
I just don't want to miss anything Bcz I am very much curious for that!!!!!
Secondly which is not presently on top of the priority but Its must that both of us are pure Vegetarian(No Egg.No Fish)so we can find something enough without any trouble
No egg, no fish but I guess dairy products are ok. This should be no problem in each country, though France can be a bit trickier. I suggest you google the basic words that describe what you cannot eat in each language to avoid a problem. If you are struggling to find any where to eat you will find "foreign" restaurants in most major cities, in particular, North African, Indonesian and Indian restaurants will have sections in the menu that are perfect for you.
It is extremely unlikly that you will not be able to step out of your hotel because of the weather, if, you are dressed for the weather. Generally you need lined trousers, a good jacket, boots, thick socks, gloves and a hat. If you want to participate in many of the sports you will need special clothes on top of this, though cross country skiing needs virtually no special clothes.
In any winter it is likely that trains/buses/roads in general and airports may close for up to 24 hours somewhere in Central Europe (last year it was Austria and I was in the middle of it).
Switzerland is generally the most expensive of the countries yo uhave selected and certain cities (Zurich and Geneve) are the worst of all. There is a good site www.tripadvisor.com which offers generally good tips (works better in Germany, France and Switzerland than Italy and much better than say North Africa.
nytraveler put this great thread up over the weekend, it may help.
http://www.fodors.com/community/europe/europe-honeymoon-in-winter-in-europe-what-you-need-to-know.cfm
With only 10-11 days, you do not have time for 3 countries, as it takes time (and longer in winter) to get from one to another. You will lose a full day each time you go to another country, so there's a third of your trip down the drain.
Yes, it will be cold, and yes, things in some places will be closed, limiting your activities. We have no idea what your actual tolerance level is for cold, but in Switzerland there is a real possibility of snow that could hinder your ability to get out and move around, if you're not comfortable with freezing temperatures, snowfall, etc., or aren't properly dressed.
Personally, I would scale down this trip and choose two countries, two cities, actually, where things will always be open and you have the option of doing mostly indoor activities. Paris and Rome would be my choices, with one day devoted to flying between them.
3* hotels will be fine. Just be sure you understand the star ratings of hotels in Europe. They aren't the same as, for example, here in the USA - not sure about India.
I wouldn't worry a bit about diet. There is everything imaginable to eat all over Europe. Do figure out the French and Italian words for things you can't eat so you know what you're getting.
, but in Switzerland there is a real possibility of snow that could hinder your ability to get out and move around>
rubbish IMO - where in Switzerland can an average non-alpinist tourist be stranded by snow - except in some rare avalanche over a railway for a few hours before bus subsitutions are put in?
Really where St Cirq may this happen in late February or any time of year when they could not even get out?

Dear PalenQ,StCirq,Mamcalice,nytraveler,bilboburgler......
Guys thaksto everyone for your valuable feedback,I really appreciate your input on various subject.
But again I wanted to reconfirm ,IS IT ADVISABLE TO TRAVEL Europe(Italy,Fracne,Swiss,Austria)in Winter (month of February) where we experienced extreme cold around 42Deg F( 6 Deg C).
At the end of Day ,I don't want to be Disappoint(by missing anything) but still have a strong desire for Europe!!!!!!!I'm Totally Blank at this moment as I have to freeze everything by end of this Month........
OK, here's a straight answer. February is a cold month, even bitterly cold some years. If you are not skiing, Switzerland is not a good choice. Paris and particularly Rome offer more shelter and indoor activities, so if you must go in February, they make more sense. But if you can delay your trip until after March, you will have longer daylight hours and more comfortable temperatures.
I foolishly travelled to Liguria in February this year and it was a struggle to walk around and sightsee because it was SO COLD.
"But again I wanted to reconfirm ,IS IT ADVISABLE TO TRAVEL."
Let us be clear that 6C is not concidered an extreme of temperature in these areas. Night time temperatures will be below 0C most of the time and Swiss,Austria there will be snow on the ground except in city centres so temps more likely -5 to -10C. This is the norm, however very unlikely below -10C. The upside is that the air can become very clear and sun reflected off snow looks wonderful (if dazzling).
The issue that none of us can advise on is not the cold but the amount of snow. Some years there will be very little others there will be dumps up to 1 metre deep. When this dump happens all at once or in a rush hour the transportation systems stop.
Now to answer your question, all over this area are some 250 million people who will carry on doing what they normally do so you can just become one of them. If you take a rental car it will come with snow tyres (in snow affected areas) and you may need a little snow advice (surf google).
So for yes it is advisable to travel to these areas.
Sorry ,its my error that I said 6 Deg C,Basically i wanted to say max. 6 Deg C temperature we have faced in India.
But I am quite relief now that It can be possible to be their in February 2012.
I Just got the information that major thing I'm going to miss will be Jungfraujoch The Top of Europe on Swiss .
You may please advise must see places during this time
I think you should really do some research on these areas yourself as it is impossible for any of us to know what you want to do on your honeymoon. Here are some websites to get you started:

St Cirq - lay off denigrating comments about my son please - I have asked you again and again but you persist in what you think are clever remarks criticizing him. Lay off and... well capiche? Better for all that way. I mean you can haughtily criticize me with every negative in the book as you often do but my family members should be off limits. Show some consideration for this request, please. Thank you.
How can we tell you when we don't think 42 degrees is extreme cold? to me, extreme cold is zero farenheit. I'm happy if we have 42 degrees in the winter - you can figure that for a daily high for at least 4 months a year. So - we don;t know if it will be a problem for you or not. (I can't stand temps higher than 80 - so I hate summer - but you might like those temps.)
If you're asking if it's unhealthy - no. Will it make you sick - no. Will you be uncomfortable - we don;t know. If you have proper clothing - you should be perfectly comfortable. But we are not you.
Indoor activities will be open and you will be able to see/do all you want. Depending on weather each day you may be comfortable exploring neighborhoods on foot (I would) or you may not.
You will not have flowers or green grass or trees with leaves. It may be too cold to sit at an outdoor cafe (or not - some have heaters) and probably to sit on benches in the park for longer than 20 minutes or so - unless you get an oddly warm day..
Only you can decide how much you will be bothered by cold - and if you are prepared to get the proper clothing for the trip (without it you WILL be miserable).
I would have no trouble at all traveling then - would do it in a heartbeat - but I'm used to cold winters, snow (sometimes a lot) and have proper clothing to deal with it. (In a previous job when I worked about 1.5 miles from where I lived I would often walk home after work - even in the winter (30s or even 20s), even if it was snowing (light snow not a blizzard). I found it exhilarating.
And when we were children and there was a lot of snow my mother would have to drag us in out of it - since we were too busy throwing snowballs or making snow forts or sledding down the hill next to the school to pay attention to the cold.
The key question is: do you have a plan to buy the winter clothing you will need before you arrive? If you're willing to do that the trip shouldn't be a problem. Note; Dresses or skirts will NOT do. Warm pants and boots are required along with a heavy winter coat and a couple of wool sweaters for layering.
Guys,
Thank you so much for all the information & Basis on this information I am planning my trip to France ,Switzerland & in Italy which I will start from 9/10th February 2013 & complete it by 23rd Feb 2013
jamikins & nytraveler, very very valuable information i received from you guys.
Nytraveler,I hope even I will enjoy the way u had enjoyed throwing Snowballs. I would again request if you suggest for specific kind of cloths & Shoes to avoid all the fumbles
My next mission will be to select "Must Visit Places"in all the 3 countries,Again I am concern about where to start & where to end the trip Because I want to spend Valentina Day in Paris but if I start from Italy then it has warmer temperature compare to France & Swiss.
Yes - you will each need:
Heavy winter coat - wool or down filled - preferably reaches the knee
Wool Scarf
Wool hat
Wool or fur lined gloves
Winter boots that are waterproofed and have non-skid soles (for ice or sleet) - not tall fashion boots
Another pair of comfy walking shoes - waterproof if possible
Warm pants (wool or cords or similar)
Long-sleeve shirts
turtlenecks for under the shirt
At least one warm wool sweater
Warm socks
For samples of these things go to the website of Eddie Bauer or Land's End or similar - then figure out where you can get similar nearby (you won't want to spend so much money for things you will wear only for a couple of weeks)
You may not need to wear all these layers every day - but on cold/windy days you probably will. If you get warmer days in Italy you will be able to drop some layers - perhaps even the heavy coat. But last year there was substantial snow from Rome north - so perhaps not.
I suggest a down-filled coat rather than wool. If you have rain or wet snow, it will be water repellant and will dry faster. It should also be lighter in weight.
Thanks again nytraveler,,,,,,,,,,,,
Guys,
I am selecting on below destination, will u please advise if I can add something interesting.......
*Paris - City (2N- 3D)
*Lucerne - Mount Jungfrau & Mount Titlis.(2N- 3D)
*Venice - Murano, Burano & Torcello. (2N)
*Florence - Excursion to Pisa & Leaning Tower.(2N- 3D)
*Rome-City (2N)
Please suggest/advise,if I make my trip more effective.
I would Highly appreciated Rreply from each& everyone helped me from the beginning.
Glad to be of help!
I think you need to approach the days you are assinging differently. You have Paris as 2 nights/3 days but actually 2 nights = 1 full day as the other 2 days will be travel days so you will lose half a day. So you really have:
Day 1 - travel to Paris
Day 2 - (maybe jetlagged?) Paris
Day 3 - travel to Lucerne
Day 4 - Mount Jungfrau and Mount Titlis (can you do this in 1 day? What if the weather is bad??)
Day 5 - travel to Venice
Day 6 - Venice - if you want to do Murano, Burano & Torcello you will need more time here
Day 7 - Travel to Florence
Day 8 - Florence - if you want to do Pisa you will need more time here
Day 9 - Travel to Rome
Day 10 - Rome
Day 11 - fly home
As you can see you dont really have time to see much in any place you are planning to go and about half your honeymoon will be spent traveling rather than enjoying.
With so little time I would pick two locations - maybe Paris and somewhere in Switzerland if that is what you prefer. You simply do not have time to see all that you want to.
Please suggest/advise,if I make my trip more effective.
*Paris - City (2N- 3D)
*Lucerne - Mount Jungfrau & Mount Titlis.(2N- 3D)
*Venice - Murano, Burano & Torcello. (2N)
*Florence - Excursion to Pisa & Leaning Tower.(2N- 3D)
*Rome-City (2N)
Instead of basing in Lucerne I would base in Interlaken as the Jungfraujoch is a long long day trip from Lucerne but much shorter from Interlaken and Interlaken to Mt Title and Lucerne is less than two hours I think.
More practical to base in Interlaken and hotels across the board there I have found are cheaper than those in pricier Lucerne - Interlaken especially has a wide range of inexpensive digs that Lucerne almost totally lacks.
Many here will say your trip is too hurried - it takes all of a day practically to get from Paris to Lucerne and the next day doing day trips
again it will take most of the day to travel to Venice from Lucerne and the next day you are doing day trips.
Perhaps schedule some time to see Venice itself or Lucerne itself?
Guys,
Again I want to correct major thing that I am traveling for 13 Nights & 14Days to be specific.(I will start on 9 or 10 and return by 24 to Bombay/india)
please advise,I want to select any one from Mount Jungfrau and Mount Titlis so which one to pick if both has identical activity,Please correct my if I'm wrong here otherwise its better to see other essential city(Geneva,Basel,Zuric or any other spot),Please advise on this matter.
Glacier Express will consume Minimum 3 Days so I can't take it that also.
Seeking for Help !!!!
Geneva,Basel,Zurich cannot ever be described as essential. I'd avoid the big swiss cities if i could.
No idea which mountain is best
the two mountain peaks are very very different but both awesome adventures. If in Interlaken do Jungfraujoch - if in Lucerne do Titlis - either will give you the experience of an Alpine wonderland complete with ice-girdled peaks and thrilling rail and cable way rides. Titles is a lot cheaper and quicker than the trek to Jungfraujoch, perhaps the most expensive train ride in the world at well over $100 return from Interlaken.
There is no point in going to Zurich, Geneva or Basel based on what you want to see/do.
Jungfrau has much more to see and do versus Titlis and is also much higher. You can see ice carvings/caves, dog sled rides, visit outdoor weather station and even take a ski lesson if you want. But it takes much longer and costs much more. It really is;t practical to do from Lucerne. But what you must remember with any of these mountains is that the tops are in the clouds - if it's a cloudy day there is no point in going - since you won't see more than about 6 or 8 feet in front of you. It only makes sense to go it it's clear (not in the valley - but at the top). The train station - or you hotel - will tell you if it's clear on any specific day.
You should have an alternative plan ready if the top is not clear - as in some smaller villages you might want to visit. Either partway up the mountains - or in the valley (Brienz is a charming village with a lot of woodcarvers, Thun has a wonderful castle, etc.
Guys,
Still searching all the website, what are the essentials thing to do in paris,Itly & Swiss in winter
If you have something to share,I would appreciate.
We have no idea what is essential for YOU. Our "essential" may not be yours. Plus we don't want to waste time telling you about things that may be of no interest to you, or that you have already chosen.
Since you have already done so much research on the cities on websites, please share the sights and activities that interest you that you already have added to your list. You must have chosen these cities and countries for a reason. You have mentioned your interest in the natural beauty of Switzerland, but why have YOU chosen Paris and Italy? We can help you narrow or expand the list based on the insight you provide.
Well to me the absolute highlight in Switzerland has always been, figuratively and literally the Jungfrau Region just south of Interlaken, which also makes a well-equipped base for the area as well as day trips to say Lucerne or Bern, etc. This is the WinterWonderland Switzerland etched perhaps in your minds' eyes but which many never see if they stick to cities like Lucerne, Geneva or Zurich. Many folks like to base in an cute Alpine village like Grindelwald, Wengen, Murren or Lauterbrunnen.
Hi PalenQ,Eleneem & all
If I ask me what is essential to me & why i have awlceted this perticular cities,
Here we go,
PARIS:
I want to spend my Valentin day in the most romantic city of world but don't know what r the activitie involve to make this trip more romantic
Switzerland :
I know there are two heavens of the world , one is Kashmir(heaven of India)& second will be Swiss, so I want to spend my honeoon in Heaven.also I like a sports so skiing will add ice in the cake during this trip
Itly:
Personally I am very much found of Good & fashionable Dresses/ attire & I heard that Milan has a top quality designs & fabric from the world apart from that i want to taste PIZZA which is oriented from here & famous in the all over world . And I also heard the Florence & Venice will be the great place during the honeymoon.
BUT STILL THE QUESTION WILL REMAINS THE SAME WHAT R THE OTEHR ACTIVITEIS TO Be INCLUDED while being in these places.
Hope this clarifies & u can share with me anything what u have top of the Mind , I will be thankful
I think you need to spend some time with a couple of good guidebooks. Paris is a romantic city to many but so is Venice. You see how hard it is for complete strangers to tell you what to do and where to go. We each have our own ideas of what we want to do.
If it were my honeymoon, I wouldn't go to Switzerland, but that is what you want to do.
In Italy, I wouldn't go to Milan but instead to Florence and Venice. Look at the destination guides for Florence and Venice on this board to see the most visited sights and get some ideas.
I would spend a week in Paris but you don't have time for that. There is so much to do in Paris - read a few trip reports on this forum to get ideas for your visit. We love museums and visit the Louvre, D'Orsay and others on each visit. Museums are good for cold weather.
You should tailor your trip to 12 days; as it is, it is a three week trip. Cut it to two or at most 3 destinations. It looks like you are leaning to Milan, Switzerland and Paris. When you decide, we can more easily provide some details.
Now we understand that you what romance, heaven, skiing, fashion. You haven't told us what activities (aside from staying in your hotel room) would be romantic for you. Why were Florence and Venice considered "the great place during the honeymoon"? What activities did they have to offer that attracted your attention.
As mamcalice wrote, it is difficult for complete strangers to tell you where to go and what to do. Our ideas of "heaven" and "romance" are not yours. Plus, you have such a tight schedule that you will only have time for very few activities. Knowing your particular interests will help us make the best suggestions for you. Without knowing your interests, you can just as well look at the destination guides on this website and pick the most popular sights--something you can do yourself without our help. We need your help in order to help you.
Now we understand that you WANT romance, heaven, skiing, fashion. . . sorry for the confusion
want to spend my Valentin day in the most romantic city of world but don't know what r the activitie involve to make this trip more romantic>
To me and many Venice is the most romantic city in Europe if not the world - much more so IMO than hectic boisterous Paris.
Thanks guys ,
I will definitely include Venice(Itly) as i got information from u that its equally romantic place .
So following things in my list
1.Mount titlis or Mount jungfrau along with Back up plan , keeping in the mind whether conditions ;
For 4 nights
2. 4 nights in Paris
3. Venice & Florence for 4 nights
MY NEXT SEARCH OPERATION IS " Must things to do in this place "
I hope this looks better , awaiting for ur suggestions
The classic things to do in Paris are
1) Have an evening meal on a boat as it cruises through Paris. Normally Euro 100 for a couple of hours.
2) go up the Eiffel tower and hold hands
3) Visit the louvre and see the Mona Lisa
These are so hackneyed as to be almost mandatory for the honey moon. I propose an alternative
1) Have an evening meal on the top of the Islam centre (it is right on the Seine so you get the sparkly lights) and the food is not the usual french
2) Take the "Segway" tour of paris from Fat tires, great fun, good chat and you learn to do a silly thing together
3) Visit Musee D'Orsay and have tea and cake in the upstairs canteen
One you have to do is visit Versailles (take the train)
Florence has a Cathedral and a Baptistry. A world heritage art museum, a pretty bridge, a wonderful park, a few old walls and about 50 churches which are heavily decorated. They also have markets, shops, restaurants
By train or bus you can get to Lucca/Pisa/Sienna each of which has benefits. Lucca is fully walled, has medievel towers, a cathedral. Pisa has the famous (ly dull) tower, a baptistry and other fine buildings, part of its old walls with medievel towers. Sienna stands out as having much of the above but generally of higher quality.
Thanks bilboburgler,
That's really wonderful piece of information & I would really thankful to you fro prompt response.
I really excepting similar kind of Information for other places so I have all the database before I can freeze other thins .
Appreciate all for giving all the valuable information
With Lövë & Hapiness
Bhavin
Bhavin, all this info is available on this web site. Just surf each city using the search engine at the top of the page. This info is so easily available most of us cannot be bothered to roll is out time after time.
Have a read and then come back with questions. For instance Paris has a good bus and underground public transport while Pisa has a bus from the railway station to the field where the tower is. You can find all this very easily if you surf, but if not sure come on back.
Hi Bhavin...as somebody who has lived in India all her life I would suggest that you wait to make your trip during summer weather. You can't imagine how cold it gets during February in the countries you are planning to visit. Especially if you are used to the weather in Mumbai it would be even harder.
You maybe too far ahead in your planning and may not want to change your plans...however think again about your trip. You will enjoy the same trip a lot more around June/July. Being chilled to your bones is not a great experience...
However if you decide to go ahead with your trip be ready to spend lots of times indoor and get very warm clothes with a lot of layering.
Hope you have a great trip!!
Bhavin,
ideally you have two trips here - one to a city or two in the winter, and another to Switzerland in the summer. if you can only do one, I'm with rajshiv that you should make it a summer trip so that your desire to see the Jungfraujoch and the surrounding area has the best chance of being fulfilled.
if you can do the two, your winter trip is already quite full - Paris, Florence and Venice will be quite enough for 10 days, particularly as the hours of daylight will be quite short.
hope you and your fiancee have a great trip, whatever you and she decide to do.
Guys,
Shall I find any cruise option in Italy or Paris for a Night!!!or even lakes & river's water going to be freeze during winter
Bhavin - only you can decide what you want to do - it is really impossible for any of us to tell you if you should go on a cruise or not.
Get a good guide book for each of the places you are going and sit down with your fiancee and decide what YOU want to see and do.
Guys,
Again want to recheck & reconfirm that , Mount Jungfrau and Cable car at Mount Titlis in Swiss are fully functional during February 2013 .
I am aware about that no one predict/give me a guarantee about Whether of February but wants to hear your feedback/experience regarding same.
Awaiting for your reply
