Searching for a hotel in Madrid

My husband, 3 adult daughters and I will be in Madrid in early July, for four days at the end of our trip which began in Sevilla and Barcelona. I am struggling to find the right place for us to stay! I would like to keep the cost to 140 euro per room per night, and would like to stay in the areas within walking distance to the museums, and also the Ritz, where another in my party will be staying. I have consulted Tripadvisor and Maribel guides and am not feeling great about my options at this point. Among many others, I have considered NH Paseo del Prado, H&R Hotel de la Letras, Radisson Blu Hotel Madrid Prado, Hotel Lope de Vega and Catalonia Los Cortes (best option at this point). Many have had bad reviews, and others are looking a little tired. I need one of the rooms to be big enough for 3, would like nice linens and a spacious modern bathroom, and obviously AC that works! A place that we can come home to at the end of the day and look forward to relaxing in! Can anyone out there recommend something that I have not found or that I have overlooked? Thank you so much!

Hi,

For your requirements, I would recommend the Westin Palace. My husband and I and our 13 yr old son at the time stayed in one of their standard rooms and found it to be roomy and lovely. Location can't be beat. However, it might higher that your budget. We were there in the summer and don't recall any issues with the A/c.
A more budget alternative would be Hotel Prado. I have stayed there twice and wouldn't hesitate going again. However, don't recall the linens being anything special , but for me they were more than adequate. The bathroom was modern and the A/C worked beautifully in the extreme heat of August. But if you're looking for charm this hotel will probably not be it.

Take a look at the Hotel Plaza Mayor. I've stayed there, I'm staying there again in two weeks, and it might meet your budget. Others on this forum have praised it. It's very central to the major sites. www.h-plazamayor.com

We were pleased with the Hotel RM (Room Mate) Mario which should be well within your price range. The rooms are fairly simply furnished but in a nice modern boutique hotel style and it's very central, near the opera house and a short walk from all the main sights - if we were to return to Madrid, I would stay there again. I wouldn't know if they have triple rooms or not, though - they are not that common in Europe. But you might be able to get 2 doubles & 1 single for your overall ceiling of €280.

Based on the input from Caroline, I had decided that Hotel RM Alicia might be a great option for us. But charron53, I had never heard of homeaway.com. We are renting an apartment in Barcelona and just hadn't found a good source for apartments in Madrid. This may be a real possibility for us, as I found several nice ones on their website. Thank you all so much, I am feeling much less stressed about accommodations at this point. Once I get this done I can focus on the fun stuff, deciding what we are going to do while we are there!

www.friendlyrentals.com also comes recommended. I have never used them but have seen it mentioned here and people were happy with their selection.

If you'll be considering apts check spain-select. We rented one of their apts at Plaza de La Paja a couple of years ago with good experience. Make sure you read carefully the apt description to make sure it has A/C ( a must in Madrid in July) , and whatever else is important to you. Dont be disppointed if they dont provide high end linens.
