Any recommendations for marisquerias/seafood restaurants in Malaga ?

There are sevral fine places in the center of town, just west of the main street Marqués de Larios. Casa Vicente in Calle del Comisario, 2 is one of them: http://www.tripadvisor.es/Restaurant...Andalucia.html

But I would perhaps go to Pedregalejos, some five mins by taxi/ten mins by bus east of the city center. Here you'll find numerous great seafront restaurants that are very popular with locals: El Lirio, El Morata, El Maricuchi, El Cabra, La Paloma, El Caleño, Los Espigones, Miguelito “El Cariñoso”, El Merlo, La Carihuela Chica, Las Acaricias, Los Cuñaos, Las Palmeras and Hermanos Muñoz.

Conchas Finas is a divine Málaga speciality served in any decent marisquería in the region, tastes pure sea. Have them raw with a sprinkle of lemon. http://www.google.no/search?q=Concha...w=1600&bih=775

Thanks, Kimhe. I'd like to sample ALL of them but will only be there for two nights. I am a conchas finas fanatic and so will be on the trail of them both days. As far as I know, the Malaga area is the only place to find them, and they are a major reason to revisit the city !!

I asked about Malaga restaurants on another forum (specifically about those open on Sunday and Monday, the days that I will be in the city on an upcoming trip), and received this recommendation. Apparently Sunday is a good day to go. What I am not sure about is if they accept advance bookings.

Terrible news of floods around Malaga today. People planning to tour that area in the immediate future should check the news.

Looks like Los Mellizos is in the same street as Kimhe's hotel suggestions and, in fact, in the same building as the Hotel Don Curro. Very central as is Casa Vicente. Gutierrez Playa is located at Playa de la Misericordia which is west of Malaga. The restaurants in Pedregalejo are probably easier to reach. They are to the east. We'll hit them when we get on the road to Almeria. Will also sample Dani Garcia's food at La Moraga-Antonio Martin on the water in the city. Yum-yum.

If you're heading to Almería, you should also know that you pass by what many hold to be the best freiduría in all of Andalucía, La Cueva in Torre del Mar. Always packed, so come early:

Although we've done the old coastal road 100s of times, Torre del Mar doesn't come to mind. Think we'll stop at your place in Nerja for a feast of seafood before heading to Trevelez where we'll be forced to eat all that ham ! Sigh.

The floods hit Malaga, Almeria, and Murcia provinces. The devastation is simply terrible. Roads and bridges are out, etc. We are waiting to hear from friends there for advice as to whether we should cancel our trip which was to have begun Oct. 16. Oh dear.

Terrible and just not what the region needed now. But it seems that the worst damages - of course apart from the deaths - has been done to crops, irrigation systems, rural roads etc in relatively defined areas. http://www.nerjatoday.com/nerjanews/...ds/#more-25516

Of course broad coverage in the local press, but no longer top story in the Malaga newspaper Sur. In some areas people are concerned when they can drink tap water again, but it seems that things in general are relatively intact when it comes to transportation, roads etc.

I wish I knew how to post links here. I'd put up the one to the photos in the Voz de Almeria. There the motorway and other national roads have been affected. Our friends said to come. All should be OK in two weeks ! I don't think so. Don't think the Spanish will be like the Japanese after the tsunami. They were simply amazing at putting roads together again. We lived there during the really big floods of Oct. '73 (272 deaths) and don’t want to experience all that again, but conchas finas call so undoubtedly we'll get on the plane !

Things should have recovered somewhat in two weeks, but you have to keep an eye on the weather. There have been a number of extreme weather conditions this year, including the tornado that touched down today in Gandia, south of Valencia.

Thanks, Eks. Went all through them, and some of the really bad, early ones were removed. An article and picture were also in the NYT. That photo shows Vera, the worst hit, 4,000 houses, which is near our village which at the end of Aug. was in one of the the big Andalucian fires ! We are now thinking of heading from Malaga to Rabat before continuing on with our trip back to Madrid and then Paris. We'll see.
