Greetings: Our cruise ship docks at the Dundee King George V wharf and we will be going to Edinburgh city center, hotel to be determined, in mid-August. Can you please help by letting me know of transport available from that dock? I am having trouble finding any indication of services there and have googled without success. Would greatly appreciate any info you have--many many thanks!

If you're going to Edinburgh in August, festival season, you're approximately a year late in finding a hotel. Look for that right now, then worry about how to get there. You may end up staying out of town or even in Glasgow.

Before even thinking of transport you need to nail down a hotel ASAP. You may not be able to find any due to the Festivals/Tattoo.

As I mentioned on your other thread, staying out at EDI may be your best (or only) option. So nail down you accommodations quickly -- like today.

As for transport -- taxi to train station, train to Edinburgh (followed by a taxi out to EDI if that is where you end up staying - not the tram IF you are traveling w/ typical 'cruise luggage')

Oh -- and where you end up staying will determine where you get off the train in Edinburgh. If in the city center you will want Waverly Station . . . but if you end up out at EDI I'd get off at Haymarket instead since it would be a shorter cab ride to the airport.

Hi all--I have already seen how expensive the hotels are but we have been able to book at the Holiday Inn Express-Royal Mile for the night we need. So I appreciate the warning you gave us. Now to the transport--how do we get from the wharf at Dundee to 300 Cowgate
Old Town-Edinburgh--where we will get to the hotel. I look forward to your responses.

From Waverley Station, the main station in Edinburgh, you could take a taxi or even walk if you don't have too much luggage.

Does the cruise offer transportation?

You get off at Waverly station as I mentioned up thread, and either hike up the hill or catch a cab to the hotel.

. . . It is about a half mile, mostly <B>UP</B>hill walk, or a 5-6 minute cab ride.

It is the Dundee to Edinburgh component I am after and I guess you are indicating that there is train to Waverly Station from Dundee--but not from the wharf. The cruise company does offer transport but it is $175 per person which seemed extreme. We may have to go for it if there is nothing else. Wondering if taxi might be more reasonable.

OK -- I don't understand the confusion . . . You walk off the ship, hop in a cab to the train station, buy a ticket, hop on a train, get off in the center of Edinburgh, take a cab 5 mins to your hotel Could not be easier.

The train tickets will cost between £10 and £15 per person (or as little as £5/$7 if you pre purchase)

Well, if you have a lot of luggage, you'll need to allow time to get it on the train: roll it from the taxi to the ticket office/machines, buy/pick up your ticket, then take an elevator to the track level and find the track and roll your luggage there. Finally load your bags up into the train car and store them before seating yourselves.

So allow time to find your way around.

Dundee train station isn't all that large/confusing. But in any case -- they won't be on any time crunch. Just traveling from the ship to Edinburgh to stay the night, not to catch a flight.
