We are going to visit Scotland and Ireland at the end of the summer. What is absolutely necessary to see and do there? I don't want to travel to too many different places; I want to get more of a feel for the areas. Any suggestions? Thank you.

I'd love to see it, thanks! We will actually have more like ten days. Also, I am afraid we will run into booking problems. I understand there is a festival in Edinburgh?

Yes, there is a huge arts festival in August, starting the 6th and I beleive thru the first few days of Sept. There are actually two festivals, the Fringe, and the original festival. It will be busy and reservations could be tough. My recommendation for Scotland is Edinburgh and the highlands. Edinburgh has a lot of history - which the rest of the country does also, and the highlands for the scenery.
