Would like your advise on any routes or itinerary plans for a 6 day period.
We would be coming in from Belfast from a ferry, picking up our rental car from Stranraer and need to be in Edinburgh 6 days later, the 7th day we are planning to depart from Edinburgh down to England.
Would be good if there are some highland places along the way as well as scenic routes.
Possible?

Personally I'd fly from Belfast to Inverness and pick up a car there. Then make my way south to Edinburgh Stranraer is on the same latitude as Newcastle upon Tyne in England and so you have a two hour journey just to reach Glasgow - Edinburgh would be 3 hours.
Stranraer is a looooong way from the Highlands. If you are starting from Stranraer -- then stay south (Dumfries and Galloway, Ayrshire, the Borders) much more to see/doo than your 6 days will allow.
If you want the north and the Highlands -- then do as alanRow suggests and fly to Inverness instead.
Thanks folks! Will work out a schedule based on south and maybe glasgow and edinburgh.
Will also consider taking a flight instead if the price works out to be similar to taking a ferry.
We just thought it would be a nice change to travel by sea after all the flight in & out of UK.
