Scotland - Isle of Skye
Anyone have a recommendation for hotel/B&B for Isle of Skye? We would like a special place to stay.

Does anyone have any experience with Duisdale Country House Hotel? It looks very nice and although it's a pricey, maybe that's what you have to pay for "special".

Thanks in advance for your input.

My absolute favourite is the Eilean Iarmain Hotel on the Sleat peninsula. (also known as the Isle Oransay).

For outdoorsy atmosphere the Sligachan is not to be beaten. For upmarket country house class, try the Kinloch Lodge. For down to earth ordinary in a great location the Rosedale in Portree; and tho' I've not been there, the Three Chimneys and The House over By have a superb reputation (the Chimneys is rated one of the best 100 restaurants in the world.)

Pick the bones out of that

I stayed at Tir Alainn (Beautiful Country in Gaelic) near Broadford while I was there, and the accomodations were clean and comfortable, the food was great, and the host was marvelous. He sang and danced as he served you breakfast! He also knows the scoop on what to do on the island (although you may have to take a while to translate his scottish brogue into recognizable english!... but that's half the fun)...

He recommended the Three Chimneys, but only if you have lots of cash.

Thanks for your suggestions. Got another question for you. How many days/nights makes sense to spend on Skye? Is one overnight enough to spend or is there more to see and maybe 2 nights better. My hubby can't do hiking, etc., so it would be more sightseeing, etc.

We only stayed one day, and didn't even get to the other side of the island. I really wanted to go through Portree and to the castles on the other side, but we concentrated on the south... there is a college there that teaches only in Gaelic, and I had to go visit!
