Schengen req. visa
This schengen requirement is really confusing! ��our schedule is as follows: 15 sep - 15 nov (schengen countries), 15 nov to 15 dec (Non-schengen countries). 15 dec to 15 jan (schengen countries), 15 jan - 15 mar (non schengen countries). Is this plan ok? Thereafter, we wish to revisit the schengen countries from mid mar to may again. Will our planning be violating the schengen regulation? We want to spend 6 mths in schengen countries in all as there seems to be alot to cover. Will such planning allow us to revisit schengen countries again from mar to may? Thanks alot.

It depends on what passport you're holding.
If you have a US passport you can spend 90 days out of 180 days in Schengen countries. That means 90 days there and 90 days outside Schengen. After 90 days outside Schengen you're eligible to return.
The 90 days do not have to be consecutive but if you leave the Schengen zone you'll need some sort of proof that you left in the event you're challenged later on.

You are staying more than 90 days in Schengen under your current plan.
You will need proof that you have left Schengen for 30 days mid stay, so that you can re-enter once your second 60 days are up.
You may even then be refused entry if they decide you are misusing the system.
It might be better to do 90 consecutive days in Schengen - remember that includes the day you arrive and the day you leave, then spend 90 full days out of Schengen before re-entering.
Again the entry refusal is a possibility but unlikely assuming you have a US/Canadian/Australian/New Zealand passport.
Make sure you know which countries are Schengen too - not all EU countries are Schengen, and not all Schengen countries are EU.

Will take note of the no of days we are in the schengen countries so as not to exceed the 90 days out of the 180. We are unable to do 90 days straight in schengen countries as we hope to be in prague during christmas to visit our friend. Thus, we will be in schengen, out for abt 1 mth and in again. If we are really denied entry in Mar to schengen countries, could they allow us to enter & apply for visa there & then?! We don't want our trip to be sour because of the Schengen requirement.
Have been trying to see if we could apply for a one yr visa sort of thing so that we will not be bounded by this 90 days out of 180 days ruling but there doesn't seem to be any tourist visa for up to 1 yr or even 6 months straight?

No, you can't apply from inside Schengen.

There are no 6 mo/1 yr tourist visas.
You may be fine, but why not simply modify your dates to only be in Schengen 89 or 90 days and relax? It looks like you have a lot of flexibility so - just count the days carefully.
