Scenic rail and mountain scenery in Switzerland and Austria

Jump to last reply

Thinking of the following trip.
Travelling from Australia to Europe. Myself and my wife. Ages around 60 years old. Been to UK extensively and many of the great cities of Europe, Paris, Berlin, Madrid. What we haven’t done much of in Australia is train travel and mountain scenery. Need to end up in Vienna on 1 October, where we will be staying for several weeks.

21 September Flight Australia (to Europe) via Dubai (Emirates Airline), so taking day and half stopover in Dubai.

Flight to Zurich (from Dubai). Commence Railbookers itinerary.
Railbookers Classic Glacier and Bernina Express itinerary beginning 23 September

Zurich to Interlaken to Brig to Chur to St. Moritz to Tirano then back to Chur.

Then, for more mountain scenery and for an efficient train path to end up in Vienna, then to 2 nights in Innsbruck and then 2 nights in Salzburg (as Salzburg is highly rated as a place to visit), then to Vienna.

Hotels suggested by Railbrookers are Krebs Interlaken, ABC Chur Hotel, Grand Hotel Europa Innsbruck, AM Mirabellplatz Salzburg.

Total cost from Railbookers for begin Zurich until arrival in Vienna, train plus 8 nights hotel, is GBP1,197 per person. The advantage for Railbookers is we are busy professionals and they save us time, but a disadvantage could be if they overcharge for their booking service.

Any thought or comments welcomed!
