Scavi Tour Reservations

Just discovered this site the other day and ran across mention of the tour under St. Peters. My problem is I am going to Rome in two weeks. I get the feeling I am out of luck taking this tour since there is not enough time to make reservations and mail a payment. Is there any way around it or am I out of luck? Thanks.

I think the reservation is possible since the main transactions are by email. They will take a payment when you get there if they haven't received your check. Last year they let us in on our word that we had mailed payment. It's worth every bit of effort.

Hi Lisa,
I live and work in Rome as a tour guide so thought I would help you out. As you are going to be here in the low season you should not have too much trouble securing a tour once you are here. You can phone the Vatican direct or go the Bronze doors at St Peter's and ask them. They will give you a form, fill it out and give it straight back and more than likely you will have a tour the next day and make payment then as well.
It is more for the high season that they follow the procedure more strictly.
Let me know if you need any other advice.

Try this [email protected] or go to www.vatican.va, click on the "site map", then on the letter "V", it will take to the info on the necropolis. You can do the entire res by email and pay when you get there. It may take a day for a response.

Lisa, you no longer have to mail in a payment. I recieved my email this morning confirming my visit. At the bottom it reads "Tickets are purchased at the Excavations Office, 10 minutes prior to the scheduled visit."
