Scarves

Okay, this is a picky question, but I'd like to pack the right things. I'm going to Rome for a week (leaving Saturday) and was wondering what scarves the younger women are wearing there. I know scarves are essential in Europe and, as a young, reasonably fashionable Bostonian, I do have a decent number of them. The question is what the women in their later 20's/early 30's are wearing. Here, long wool/knit scarves (some with poms or other interesting bits), as well as cashmere (solid or plad) and faux fur scarves are in. Is it the same there, or are silk or velvet scarves more in vogue (here these tend to be for older women)? Or both? I also have some pashmina/wraps-- how about those? Thanks in advance.

Hi lukesaunt, haven't been to Italy for a couple of years so can't answer your question as to the most up to the date fashion statement but here is a suggestion. Why not buy some scarves after you get to Rome? They have such beautiful ones, they make wonderful memories and so easy to put in the luggage when you come home.

I never take a scarf to Italy..always buy them there..I have a nice collection..and shopping for them is so much fun as there is such a fantastic selection.

Have a beautiful time in Rome, lucky you!!!

lukesaunt, please come back next week with the answer. It's not a critical question, but it would be fun to know. I've students who are interested in fashion design from an international perspective. I wonder if there's a website or a magazine or two which would give them a chance to see fashion in a number of countries and might answer your question as well. J.

Just back from Florence and Rome. Visited a college student there. Long skinny scarves of light-weight material are still in. You loop it backwards around your neck first and then bring the ends forward. Works with thicker woolish scarves too. I agree about buying them there too. They're everywhere in markets.

Yes, long scarves, wrapped around the neck. Wool if it's cold.
If you are looking for scarves in Italy, try Missoni; they're expensive, but look wonderful with everything.

There are a ton of Missonis on sale at Filene's Basement as a matter of fact, so maybe I'll see one I like... or buy one there, which is an excellent suggestion. As for the brain vacancy post-- that's pretty funny. I'm an attorney, so the answer is no. But YOU, on the other hand, can't spell "is." Sweet. Thanks for the replies everyone (else), and I will reply when I return!

Hi lukesaunt, I will be interesting in your "fashion report" when you return from Italy also. I love clothes, and always enjoy how the Italians dress.

Have fun shopping and have a beautiful time in Rome!! Lucky you.

I've picked up some beautiful Missoni scarves in Filenes basement. Also a long Longchamp but buy my Hermés in Paris about $100 less.
