Scandinavia Itinerary Help!
Hi there!
My husband and I have booked our airfare to Scandinavia from July 3-July 11, 2016 and I am trying to finalize our itinerary. We fly into Copenhagen on July 3 and leave from Alesund on July 11. I would really appreciate advice for what to do in between.
Originally my plan was:
* 3 nights in Copenhagen
* Overnight ferry to Oslo
* 1-2 nights in Oslo
* Flight to Alesund and stay 2-3 nights at the Storfjord hotel near Geirangerfjord
I have read some negative reviews about rough waters while taking the ferry from Copenhagen to Oslo. I am nervous because my husband gets sea sickness easily and am considering scrapping this plan. Thoughts?
I am thinking maybe now we should nix Oslo and fly Copenhagen to Stockholm and then fly Stockholm to Alesund. Then we can visit 3 countries during our trip.
Basically I would love to hear feedback on if I should do plan A or plan B....any any other advice is welcome as long as we start and end in the same place!
Thanks!!
Stephanie

I can't speak to the questions of the potential roughness of the waters or the likelihood of seasickness -- sorry!
I can say that IMO, Stockholm easily merits 5 full days -- more than it seems that you could give it. But of course, that depends on what YOU want to see and experience, and ONLY you can decide that....
If the ferry isn't an option, can't you fly from Copenhagen to Oslo? Check rome2rio.com for your general options, then do some internet searches to identify specific options.
Hope that helps!

You don't have alot of time, just a week, so would either do the itinerary you have already planned, maybe swapping out the ferry for a flight (although I think that would be a shame) OR replace the nights in Oslo with Stockholm. I'd much rather go to Stockholm than Oslo especially in the summer. You should aim for 3 nights in Stockholm and even that might mean you don't get to see the archipelago, or maybe you can see some of the closest islands. The only problem is, I don't believe there are any direct flights from Stockholm to Alesund and will probably have to transfer flights in Oslo which might eat up alot of time.

Super helpful, thank you! I will look into flights to and from Stockholm. Not sure when we will have the opportunity to make it back over to this part of the world and if Stockholm is significantly more "exciting" than Oslo, I'm going to try to make it happen!

We took the ferry from Oslo to Copenhagen (yes, the huge ferry 11 stories high with levels of trucks and cars) and the crossing was VERY rough. It was fine as we sailed down the Oslo fjord but as soon as we were in open water the ship was bucking all over the places.
We had just sat down to dinner and the dining room emptied out in about 15 minutes. To get back to our cabin we had to hold onto the wall both hands- people who didn't were staggering all over the place. I was deathly ill but did make it back to the cabin - just.
This was in Sept - so perhaps the seas are rougher then. But when we asked a crew member in the am he said it was often this rough.

I get seasickness with frustrating ease. Based on what I've read above, I would book a flight and skip the ferry. And based on what I've read above, I'm thinking that's better for both your marriage, your belongings on the trip, and the condition of your potential stateroom . . .
