Scandinavia and RCL 8 Night Norwegian Fjords Cruise 2015

I would like to add on to an 8 day cruise to Norway that starts in Copenhagen late August 2015. Suggestions would be appreciated for where to fly into from the US, before and after highlights. Only the cruise is booked so far. My sister is going to Copenhagen soon and staying at the Hotel Kong Arthur. She says she can take a day trip to Sweden. Trip duration can be up to 3 weeks. Thank you!

Malmo Sweden is just across the bridge from Copenhagen, that's probably what she means by day trip.

We stayed 4 days in Copenhagen and that was right for us... lots to see and do. We headed to Helsinki after (flew via SAS) but another option for you would be to fly INTO Stockholm, then take the train to Copenhagen for the start of your cruise. I found Stockholm to have so much to do that we could have used a couple extra nights (and we were there 4 nights).

Other options while you are in the area are Riga, Tallinn, Helsinki, Stockholm and Oslo, which is where you'll be heading, I assume. It would help if we knew more details.

Thank you! No more details as of yet because I am so unfamiliar with this part of Europe. I like your idea to fly into Stockholm. Did you enjoy any particular hotels?

My planning process is in infancy but I've learned it's very helpful to ask experienced travelers so this is my first time asking this early.

I still need to do a trip report.............

Stockholm is great... we stayed at the Radisson Blu Waterfront hotel... rooms were expensive (I think it was close to $400/night, the most expensive of our trip) but the buffet breakfast was amazing (included caviar) and we were very very close to the train station where you could also catch the metro. And right across from city hall, of which we had a great view!

Things we liked in Stockholm: The ABBA museum (so interractive and fun!), the VASA museum, walking in the Old Town (Gamla Stan), eating authentic Swedish meatballs, the Ice Bar... such a nice, clean city with lots to do.

Has anyone taken the train from Copenhagen to Berlin to Prague?

No - those train trips would be awfully long at least 7 hours to Berlin and 12 to Prague - with 1 or more changes. Definitely look at budget flights.

If it were me I would spend more time in Copenhagen and other parts of Denmark - or perhaps other sections of Scand - depending on where your trip goes.

You might also want to consider St Pet or Amsterdam.

I've taken the train from Copenhagen to Berlin. If I recall correctly, it required one change in Hamburg.

I must admit although I have always wanted to visit Russia, I am a bit reluctant in today's environment.

Ok. So Prague might be too ambitious this trip.

There is nothing happening of any consequence to tourists in Russia, in cities like St Petersburg. If you want to go, just go. St Pete is a spectacular city and a perfect pairing to Stockholm. I would also recommend spending time in Denmark, Zealand, which is the island that Copenhagen is on, has many attractions along the "Danish Riviera" (north of CPH).

I've decided. 5 nights Stockholm. 3 nights Copenhagen. 8 night RCL Norwegian Fjords cruise beginning august 14, 2015.

Thank you for the help. Now what to see and do!
