Saturday Car Rental in Messina, Sicily

We will be on a cruise in August that stops in Messina, Sicily on a Saturday. We would like to rent a car to go to Taormina for the day. (There are 4 of us, so the car rental seems to be cheaper than the train.) All of the car rental agencies I have checked close at noon. Has anybody had any experience with returning a car on Saturday - can we just leave the car at the agency?

"can we just leave the car at the agency?" You will have to ask the agency. Each has its own rules/procedures. Some do have provisions for out of hours return - but they all differ . . . .

It depends on the Car rental sometimes they are open even on Sundays or sometimes they provide a sort of box where clients leave car keys.
If you would like to have a organized excursion or just a driver pick you up and drop off.
Check it out this website http://www.sicilylimousineservice.com/sicily/index.htm

Thank you for the responses. I'll check with the individual agencies. I will also double check the train/bus schedules. Apparently the site I was looking at for the train prices listed quite higher prices than the trenitalia site. The train or bus would probably be less hassle than a car rental as we would have to pay for parking, gas, and tolls.

Just train to Giardina/Naxos which is the beach town below Taormina. It takes less than an hour and may cost 15E PP.
