SARDINIA - Cagliari to Alghero (via 3 nights in Cala Gonone or Oristano?)
Would really appreciate any east coast vs west coast advice.
My partner and I are travelling to Sardinia for 6 nights in June. Flying in to Cagliari, and flying out of Alghero. We have booked our final three nights to stay in a vineyard near Alghero, but am debating where to visit for the first three nights of the trip.
We love good beaches, light sport, exploring and also some decent restaurants etc.
Have heard wonderful things about Cala Gonone - so wondering whether to spend the first three nights on the East Coast (however is it is 2.5 hr drive from Cagliari - and then after three nights will need to do another 2hr+ drive to Alghero). Or are the beaches just as good on the West coast - and would it be better to just do less driving and stay in Oristano (taking advantage of the Sinis Peninsula) for the first three nights (as it is at least more on route to our final destination in Alghero).
Just wondered if anyone had a view on East Coast vs West Coast based on the above? Is it worth the longer drive to visit Cala Gonone instead of Oristano / the West coast?
Many thanks in advance.

The beaches are nicer on the East Coast, but the Costa Verde on the West coast is wilder and maybe less touristy. If you plan to spend 3 days on the beach, Cala Gonone is lovely. If you click on my name, you'll find 3 trip reports on Sardinia.
