Sardinia Advice

I have probably read all of the Sardinian posts on here which initially drew more questions than answers.

I would like people's opinion on my proposed itinerary and if anyone has any suggestions/improvements, that would be great!

We are a couple in our late 20's who are intending on going to Sardinia for 7-10 days at the end of June. We would like to go to Sardinia for the beaches, good food, day trips and experience of a relatively small Sardinian coast town. Like most others, we do not fancy big resorts or huge tourist areas but on the flipside, nothing so quiet there is no atmosphere. We will be hiring a car.

I have thought of flying into Olbia and heading to Cala Gonone for 3/4 days (maybe visit Santa Navarrese), and then head up the east coast to San Teodoro for 1/2 days and then to Santa Teresa for 3/4 days where we can take a day trip to Corsica, and maybe Golfo Aranci or CS.

I wouldn't mind staying inland for one night. Are there any recommendations?

Interested to hear peoples thoughts for any suggestions/improvements/must dos?

Much Appreciated

Joe

My sister in law has a gorgeous condo in Golfo Aranci, and we've been there many times. Golfo Aranci is a great place it has many good, relatively inexpensive rstaurants, and some good hotels. If I had to stay there in a hotel, I would choose the Gabbiano Azzuro (the blue seagull). It has a great location right on the water and it has a gorgeous beach with lots of activities, with the best being the paddle boats. I don't know how the pricing is, but I know it's much more economical than hotels in Porto Rotundo and Porto Cervo, nearby. I would defintely stay away from Olbia. It's a grimy, unattractive city.

I have just booked our hotels for May/June 2015.
In that part of Sardinia, we will be staying 4 nights in Cala Gonone, then 4 nights in Arzachena which is a bit inland and only 10 km from Palau. Palau, as per one of my friends, is small but yet lively enough. And absolutely not a big tourist area such as Porto Cervo. It's also closer to the ferry for Corsica than Golfo Aranci.

Last summer we rented a house near Palau. We found Palau to be just big enough - with boats, stores, restaurants, a great market and a crafts market every evening. We were close to beaches and within reasonable driving distance of the ferry to Corsica and Castelsardo.

Thank you all for the previous advice.

I have now booked flights (Olbia) at the end of June for 9 nights. The last 4 nights are already booked in Golfo Aranci.

I therefore have 5 nights prior to the above to arrange the best placed route.

I would like to stay in Cala Gonone for 2/3 nights and I could do a day trip to Santa Maria Naveresse, and then 2/3 nights in the north, in say Santa Maria Gallura or Palau before finishing in Golfo Aranci.

I will have use of a car.

Do people have any suggestions of which way round I should do it, or places that I should consider?

Thanks
