Saone River Burgundy self-drive barge need itinerary

We plan to rent a self-drive barge on the Saone River in Burgundy France in July. We only have time for a part of the river, so we need to select our locations. I would love recommendations on where to go. We will have two adults, two 16 year olds, and a 12 year old aboard. Not sure if we should start in Southern part of the region (Macon) or more Northern (maybe Dole? Port sur Saone? Gray?) since we will only make it through part of this region (5 day trip). Any thoughts on which would be the best stretch to tackle would be greatly appreciated! We would like interesting things for the kids, beautiful scenery, cute villages, easy access from the boat. We are going on the Saone so we can swim from the boat (not advised on canals). Thank you!!!
