Trip Report Santorini Vacation 2013

Jump to last reply

Now that we are back in the US and summer is winding down I would like to share our experience in Santorini with all of Fodors community.

Our first visit was in 1991 just for vacation ,we fell in love with the place that we returned in 1995 and got married there , what a memorable time ...
Fast forward to 2013 with two kids on board we wanted to take them back and expose them to our memories and happy places ,however , with teenage kids that is always a dilemma, how to strike a balance between an adult visions/memories and keep them entertained and enjoying the same time, things were easier when you are single or newly Wed couples.

The first challenge was accommodations , stay in a hotel with two rooms reservation, amongst the crowds, and give up the worries about room service laundry ..etc. or rent a villa (be totally isolated on your own )along with all the services !! It was a challenge because as seasoned travelers and at this stage of our life there was no room for compromise it had to be top of the line or none.
The solution was provided by our travel agent who suggested a hybrid model , exclusive hotel composed of four large suites ( that are as close to a villa as one could ask for) with all the services/ emenities of a hotel .. The Tsitouras collection
What can one say and what words can one use to describe the place, the hosts or the matter how one tries, words will fall short and it is not going to do them justice, but I will try!
The set up is Magnificant , a little away from the hustle and bustle of town. All who are passing by had to stop and take pictures, after a while and it became humorous and part of the gorgeous scene.
The service from the staff, left us longing for nothing .You picked up the phone and your needs are fulfilled instantaneously with a genuine smile.
Now to the hosts ,and here is where I truly struggle with the appropriate description.
You are met and greeted by George and Eleni the owners. A true and heartfelt welcome ,a fantastic refreshment, as they tour the wonderfull facility with you. We were left to relax with both of them at our beck and call 24/7, Eleni the mastermind of service , info/ tours whatever you need and George the back up plan and behind the scene details.
They let us long for nothing, at on point they even showed us a villa they have for rent less than one block away that can accommodate three couples with a private swinging pool and all the services included. Next time we are certainly going to use that for our family.

Last but not least while enjoying and relaxing at the pool I misplaced my wedding band ,looked for it all over to no avail ,was heart broken and could do nothing about it . An e- mail came from Eleni after our departure to tell me the cleaning lady found my band and Eleni fedexed it to me in the states! what a phenomenal ending to a phenomenal trip!
Eleni , George and their little munchkin Spiro are our new found family.
Great place , extraordinary people certainly worth everyone's consideration if Santorini is the destination.
