Santorini--tipping advice...

Leave for Santorini and upcoming wedding soon. Very excited!

What is the usual tipping scale for restaurants, bellboys etc in Greece? Expected? Same rate as in US 10-20% depending on service??

Thanks!

Hi,
Hopefully this is correct information. The restaurants will include a tip. You can leave a little something extra if you wish. My DH tips bellboys one Euro per bag.Although in Santorini carring bags can mean a lot of stairs. He also tips the maids, but I do not know how much he leaves. My son is getting married in Oia next May. I have been there twice and think it a wonderful place for a wedding. How far in advance did you start to arrange for the ceremony and reception venue? I think they should start now, but they feel they will be fine if they start in the fall. Congrats!!! and have a wonderful time.

We started about a year in advance....all has gone well so far, but ran into some problems just this week as the ferry schedule is more limited in May, so we may be forced to do all flights in and out of Athens. Had hoped to enjoy the great scenery of arriving by ferry.

In Greece a service charge (tip) of 10% is always included in the bill. A tip of 20% is far too high. Generally you will have to carry your own luggage everwhere except in the poshest gaffs.

We stayed at the Loucas Hotel in April and the guy from the hotel carried two of our bags for us from the main square, if he is in the olympics weight lifting he will win !!!! He left me to carry the other (smallest) one and kept asking if I was OK, Yep I tipped him handsomely ~! PS great hotel ,wonderfull service and excellent position !
