we love to go to thermal and curative baths as we travel-- so are thinking of staying a night or two in Santa Cesarea Terme on our upcoming Puglia trip. Anyone been there? Is it strictly a medical terme (prescription required) or can one soak without a prescription? Are there hotels that offer soaks in the local water? Worth staying there-- or just breeze through for the afternoon. would really appreciate anyone who knows the routine there-- or what the water is like. (i assume it's cold, as it seems to be sea water??) thanks much for any info.

I've driven through the town, on a drive from Otranto to Leuca, and it looks like a great place to stay a few days. I would have loved to swim off the platforms that jut into the turquoise sea. but I've no information on hotels other than what I find online. From the looks of their sites, it looks like you can soak in the waters and you do not need a medical prescription.
This is the site for the main town baths, with a price list, in Italian; daily adult admittance 5-6 euro depending on season, which allows you to soak in the sulfur baths;; then extra for beds, umbrellas, etc:

And here is a hotel in the town with spa:

thanks so much, ek (eks?? how do i properly shorten your name... ?) the second link (with the prices) is the one i was missing. i even wrote to the place a week ago-- but have not heard back. your trip report has been a big help to us-- though we are not using your hotels (gone for a month so must keep the lodging expenses down), we will follow your lead with places and restaurants. (we are going to use airbnb for the first time-- for a trullo, matera, and bologna. yikes-- will report in on these for sure... and a bit nervous...
our paths seem to pass here often-- i remember seeing your name way back when we were planning a vietnam/cambodia trip (including pandaw)... we seem to like the same places!! so keep researching a step or two ahead of us-- such a help.

Kawh: Your comments are much appreciated and your plan sounds marvelous..an entire month!
When you get the itinerary done, please post here. And feel free to ask any and all questions! I will be returning to that area in September so expect you will have some tips for me. It looks like an atmospheric town and I applaud you for getting off the beaten path. The entire area is so different from other parts of Italy.
